my brother has put down the cash on the new F150 electric we have some very different Idea's
I was talking with a co-worker Friday who owns a tesla it is supposed to have 300 mile range , I said so it's 90 degrees out and you want to be comfortable how many miles do you really get , he said if I am honest and comfortable 150 miles if it is winter even worse he said using the heated seats and keeping cabin temp about as low as he can stand it 130-140
I didn't think to ask how it keeps the windshield clear during a driving snow when you just can't seem tp put enough heat on the windshield to keep the ice from building up I think the answer is don't go driving in snow storms and store your car in the garage
he has a 50 amp 240 outlet in his garage and said it takes about 5 hours to charge , they plug it in every night and only drive maybe 40 miles he also uses the slower charge setting trying to make the battery last longer.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

When you see him next week, can you ask what's it cost him to charge it monthly?

I need to call him in the morning if I can remember I will ask.
he said it has totally changed the way his wife drives she drives it the most , she never uses the brake pedal at all , she always has regenerative braking on you want to go faster you push to the point that you are doing the speed you want when you let off the pedal there is no coast , it starts braking with the electric motor right away. let all the way off and it comes to a stop
unlike a gas engine where you could drive using the top 1/4 of the pedal and never put it to the floor , the tesla you put the pedal to the speed you want and hold it there.

Do they come in 4WD and are there charging stations in the Wyoming backcountry?
There probably wasn't gasoline, mechanics, or parts stores in the Wyoming backcountry (or probably anywhere in Wyoming for that matter) in the early 1900s when gasoline cars came out. Good thing we stuck with the technology anyways, to get to the point where we are now.

Didn't you take the boys out west in an old F150 goose? You gonna line up for a new F150 ev? The change from horses and wagons took time in America, but even tho I wasn't around then, I bet it wasn't done with millions, now billions, of tax payer funded incentives. The change happened because people saw the advantages of motorization and invested/bought them of their own free will. The jury is still out on ev's. Subsidies and incentives have taken the place of sensible change. It would be interesting to calculate the total BTUs used yearly for transportation and change that to kilowatts. Then calculate the total extra power production needed to supply that amount of Kws for transportation. The increase in power production for an all ev nationwide fleet would be huge. Then figure out how much more lines, cables, etc.to get charging stations around the country. Transporting millions of Kws of power by line will be FAR different than millions of liquid BTUs in a tanker truck.

I'm driving a model 3 from Montana to Seattle Monday. It's supposed to be 110 degrees in Seattle Monday. I guess we'll find out, huh?

It sounds to me some of you guys need to rethink electric cars. They may not be the vehicle for you but they may be just the right type of transportation for other people. An electric car or truck would serve me well as 99% of the miles I drive are less than 50 miles a trip.
I have the a different view in that I would like to see lots of these on the road. For me that means gasoline and diesel will be cheaper and there will be less air pollution. When was the last time you had to change oil in a electric motor?
I doubt internal combustion engines will ever disappear but self driving electric cars and trucks with accident prevention will become the norm. Maybe not in my lifetime but they will come.

Beeman, good points. Same here, my daily commutes are short range. I know I wouldn't mind having a Tesla or the BMW I8. You couldn't pay me enough to get the electric mustang Filling up my truck hurts. $41 yesterday for a quarter tank

Question: Were is the energy coming from to charge the battery? I find it hard to believe that electric vehicles are "green" at this time. What is the plan for the future? How are we going to charge all these batteries? We have a long way to go on the supply of energy it is going to take.

Forget charging the batteries. THE CARBON foot print to MAKE the batteries is more than a gas car would emit if it lasted for 240,000 miles. THAT is the facts but the tree huggers will never put that in their ads saying why we need EV.
