I made the mistake of getting a deer lease in VA the first year I moved south. That was the last and only time.

Occasionally we'd have guy's from the southern states come up to my Beagle Club's field trials looking to buy hounds that will run deer. Generally we cull out the trash runners pretty quick.

That’s a recovery pic, not a dog hunting pic. Most recovery dogs will bay and even hold the deer until the hunters get there. If you ever have your “buck of a lifetime” on the line, a good dog is your lifeline. Most down here don’t charge a set fee, just ask for a donation to help cover the cost of wherever they had to travel from.

Dogs are used in parts of Ontario to push deer. Yep, plenty of folks running dogs around the Kawartha Lakes area and Parry Sound. I am sure they run them elsewhere also. Yes dogging deer is part of their heritage in central Ontario. It goes way back.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

So down here they use a dog that can bay and hold a deer until the hunters arrive.
