That weed water hyacinth has invaded waterways all across the south. And those green water snakes are all along the coasts.

Back on my home river in Alabama I would wade in with a rake at pull out and pile up hyacinths a few times a year. After a few days drying they burn really well but with black smoke just like tires.

Down on the Alabama River I can show you sloughs off of Millers Ferry that you would think are acres and acres of meadows and could be walked across until a wave comes in. All solid hyacinth.

I caught one of those water snakes in Mississippi just above New Orleans once. I went and looked at my Audubon Guide before going back to catch it. I brought it back home to Ohio. I later gave it to a friend of mine, who had it for years.

The one I caught had brighter colors.

The body seems awfully thick for the water snakes I see around here.

And I was thinking the body looks awful small for Cottonmouths we have around here. Those vertical mouth bars lead me to believe water snake.

And bite they will. Moccasins are pussycats easily moved. They ride hooks well just hook lift drop in a bucket for relocation. Water snakes on the other hand violently protest being touched. Given a choice they run like a scalded dog but try to lay hands on one, especially when cornered, they'll use everything they got including teeth to prevent that. Funny thing though is that once in hand they most often just go limp.

No' thanks! While I complain about 25 below zero at least I don't have to put up with that kind of devilish obscenity.

I really have never been a big fan of snakes, especially big ones. We don't have much more than gardner snakes.

Dead snakes don’t cause problems, guys I keep telling y’all how to resolve this snake 🐍 issue.
I’m 61, grew up fishing old beaver ponds Strip pit ponds
and swamp creeks around Hamilton and Oakman area and still not use to snakes.
Dead Snake=Good Snake..

Probably been in those same ponds and pits. Grew up south of you in the Oak Grove/Rock Creek communities ran the river and into Walker County. I played with snakes as a kid.
