Other then blind sets how do you handle them? Got a feeling once have it on their mind gonna be tough to draw them to a set.

I wonder if you could exclude them with an electric fence like guys do deer and bear?

Might be a fun experiment (you could make youtube series called fun with Pete and Angela

classic lawn chair and a gun will get you some

electric is probably the best for not needing to be out there all night

blind sets , or sets much closer to the denning location

I never had any luck trapping near what was getting killed or eaten figure out what direction they were coming from and get them as they came out of the trees , or sets in the trails they used

Don’t count on bait taking them away. Make a nice big visible path to the plot and blind set like crazy. If there is a ditch between the woods and the plot bridge it with a board and foot trap on each end and snares on the way across.

Good luck.

Had a bunch of feds running around a few years back.
Asked a guy I trap on what's up?
Said someone used the fly bait improper and a bird of prey ended up dead.
Never heard more.

To add to the lawn chair method. A taped mini mag light to the 12 works good.
That is legal here IF protecting your property.
Hot wire works.
Radio worked for couple days.

It's not just the residents. Coons smell it from other territories.

Not sure what your laws are there..but the largest conibears you can use in between rows may be effective...actually two or three per row could possibly work very well...if legal.

From a trapping method, I have found putting cage traps right between the rows and many times you can find the trail they use to get there. I use marshmallows in those cage traps. Watch the corn closely, the coon probably visit your patch many times before the start knocking them down. They wait until they can smell the sugar and then go to town.

Short circuit them with a stanky fish bait in DP's along their runs.

Hot wires....at least 2 and 3 be better.....and put the stinky bait in a tin can and hang it on the hot wire.

And no wimpy fencer. A Parmak 30 mile that tests out at 13,000 volts.

Local University guys told us once they use coons as their taste testers. Sure enough, the one they go for most was the best corn.

Dp's and cage traps are all I've ever used. A few marshmallows and the dp bait I make for my fall trapping works well. It's just doctored up horse sweet feed and fish pellets

Pretty much as had figured. Electric fence be the best bet for there. Highway is about 200 yards away so kinda takes the dog out.

Drifter, most baits I use for coons will be covered in fire ants quickly. When they start hitting my sweet corn, I put out "shiny pan" sets. Just bed almost any trap, and wrap the pan with aluminum foil. A little moonlight on it, and you'll nab a thievin coon

I’ve had no trouble getting them in a cage trap. For bait, I used grape jelly with some anise oil, dumped on some bread. In my experience, coons will work the center of the patch first, and take the end rows once they’ve destroyed the center rows. I think they feel safer inside the rows. I always gang set some box traps in the middle, where the most activity is. I’ve never had a problem getting them.
