Haitian president gets whacked and it barely makes the U.S. headlines. Its a, chaotic country, so who cares, right? For all of Haiti's woes, it is the 2nd longest "democracy" in the Western hemisphere behind the USA, after kicking out the French in 1804. It was also the only Western hemisphere country with no active covid vaccination program. The dead president said that he didn't want his country to be "an experimental country".

I'm sure there is no connection, the crazy Haitians assassinate their presidents on a regular occasion, right (no, they actually don't). I'm sure its just some tinfoil hat idea that there is some sort of linkage, just one of those dangerous paranoid white male extremists trying to cause trouble in the world. Funny, I never thought of myself that paranoid before March 2020, I guess how I perceive the overall covid response and the official deafness to the 2020 presidential election have radicalized me.

Any bets that there will be small articles in the NYT or WP say before Sept 1 that the next Haitian president is taking U.S. or Euro money to start a national covid vax program?...

I've been to Haiti a few times. Haitian Creole uses base words that are predominantly from the French, but with a very different grammatical and conjugation scheme. There is plenty of Spanish and West African influence in the vocabulary as well. Many people show up thinking they can get by on a working knowledge of French, but it doesn't work for them. None of this contradicts your overall point I understand, just thought I'd throw in my experience.

Yeah, I knew that it wasn't a very "pure" French. I probably should have said, "the Haitian Creole French" that they use.

If you read the back story about the power change(s) and succession line it reads like a movie script. The person supposed to take power should the president die, died a few days ago of covid. So that shifted the power needle. The president appointed a Neurosurgeon a few days ago also that comes into play. I wouldn't be shocked in the least if the fella now in power set this up and executed as soon as the Judge was out of the way.
