The last few times I have been to the Dr. my BP has been a touch high. Even had to have it checked twice for my DOT recert after a period of rest. Just did make it under.
Friday I had to see the Dr. again and BP was 118/76. The only thing I have changed is spending more time in the woods or on the front porch. I’m also being tested for Lyme Disease and RM spotted fever but I wouldn’t think having either of those would lower BP.

I feel pretty good, already on meds to get ahead of it if it is either of those. Blood work should be back early next week to at least make peace with the mind.
Appreciate the well wish!

118 / 76 ? You're good :-) Correct. My previous visits had me anywhere from 138/89 upwards of 143/96. I was informed if I couldn’t get it down on my own they were going to put me on meds. I feel like I’m taking enough already. I have been planning on changing diet and getting in some exercise but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I was curious if it was possible to lower it just by what I take in visually being in the woods and on the porch more and it sounds like it is possible based on Marlin’s reply. I don’t know if it is a long term solution, but it sure is an easy one so far.

Stress of ANY sort will raise BP. Calm surroundings is one of the tickets . . . but we all have to come back into the "real world" sooner or later :-(

I have high blood pressure for no obvious reason (other than 5 young kids, maybe). Averages low 130s/90s. Had it ever since I was a teenager. I'm healthy, fit,and young (180lbs, 34 years old). I don't really exercise regularly, but I work an active job and have active hobbies. I've had my kidneys scanned along with some other stuff, but no obvious reason as to why it's high. A doctor put me on losartin once, but I had bizarre side effects. I lost all my libido while I was awake, buy every night I'd wake up in the middle of the night, do the deed (quite savagely, apparently) and barely remember it the next day. Super weird. It also didn't do anything for my blood pressure, so I quit. Drinking a glass or two of wine will lower it to a healthy range of 110s/70s, but obviously that's not a permanent solution, I can't drink 24/7. I've . mostly just accepted it for now, as long as it doesn't get higher as I get older.

And a persons BP can and does change by the minute. When I first started checking my BP I was told to check it 3 times in succession. It always went down...even if only slightly every time.

Take the salt shaker off the table, or empty it. Just use pepper.

Deep breathing exercises will also lower BP, again based on relaxation/ de-stressing.

DASH diet and exercise
Mine is borderline too, 120s to 70s/80s but this helps. No added salt or processed food either, frozen food is terrible loaded with salt

Humans have been fasting for about 200,000 years when food was scarce. Now the relatively easy access to calorie rich food 24/7 is relatively 'new' to our species

Had my wife in for one of her hospital visits.Talked a nurse ibto cdhecking my BP--ended up making a trip to urgent care with 183/104 BP. I was put on amlodipine so I need to get back to the doc and see how the med is working.. Gotta love those Golden years. Tom

Tom Watch that amlodipine - has some brutal side effects and takes a long time to get out of your system once you quit taking it. Speaking from experience. It also banned in a lot of countries for human use - veterinary only. Scary. Also - Make sure you are getting true readings on BP. NO food 2 hours prior. Sit down - no crossing legs. Sit and relax for at least 15 minutes and then take it. You will be surprised how much a difference some of these things make. Changing your diet a little and a little exercise will make a world of difference. Good luck!

I was on amlodipine a few years ago ,worked well at that time.No side affects and it did the job . BP was back to normal at that time and stayed good for a few years. The lock downs and restrictions we have all gone through in the last year ,didn't help my BP--gained 20 pounds and have a belly for the first time in my life--though the hernia adds to protruding belly. My wife is on 3 different BP meds, they seem to be working well for her. Pretty sure my wifes health problems have some affect on my BP--but lack of exercise in the last year are probably a bigger factor. Tom
