Hey guys!
Just got done grinding the base for my predator bait.........
I'd say it's 50% muskrat/heart/mouse and 50% liver. It's got quite a lot of chicken liver in it.
From the ingredients I have in there, what do you think of the base? I'm gonna let it taint for a couple of days then preserve it and add some other ingredients.

Sounds good MySide. I've never tainted chicken liver so don't have much to say on that. The mice you put in will taint quick depending on how much is in it. I'd give it a light taint. After you preserve it put some to use by itself and some to mix with your other ingredients. By itself it should work fine

I'd ask the target animals. I've seen to many people say a base is good only to have it test mediocre for me. Just my 2 cents

What u add to it can make a big difference in the attractiveness of the end product but it's always good to start witha highly attractive base. And experience to guage how positive the responses are and have other base to test it beside helps. Lure making can fun and teach u a lot about your target animal but you will get out of it what you put into it.

Let it sit in the basement overnight then moved to the sun for a bit.....
Just checked it and there are VERY small maggots crawling on the outside edge of the lid... not inside the container. There are a couple that got inside but only a couple.
I wiped the lip off and tried to get a couple maggots out, I put plastic rap over the container then put the lid on, hopefully this helps so I can taint it for another day or so.
It smells kind of sweet....... is that a good thing?
