Has anyone ever used kitchen spices like allspice, cinnamon, clove, garlic, cumin, ect and have had good results? I'm not looking for any secret formulas or anything i'm just wondering if its a waste of time or not to try them out in some baits and lures. I appreciate any feedback since I tired googling it already and I didn't get any good answers.

Asafetida is a cooking spice used in middle east cooking. Cinnamon and cumin have been used also.

Knowing what I have learned over my years in formulation, most all, if not all wildlife both mammals and birds are extremely curious of stimuli in odor, sound and sight/visuals. . Testing will give you your real answer over time. It could prove to you some very interesting results. There aren't many absolutes when it comes to what may or may not be of interest to an animal. Either as a singular odor or a blend of odors.

I use spices almost everyday I'm mixing formulas. Fun testing but I rely mostly on Herb and Asa records not changing formulas. Spices are some of the more pleasant smells in the lure room.

Was there a written down mountain man formula they used with castor, clove and cinnamon? I’d say isn’t exact but a combination like that I’d think would attract many a beaver.

Ky, I got one here that uses mace along with castor but I’m sure cinnamon or other ingredients like clove would work. I’ve used nutmeg in place of mace with good results.

“Old time beaver lure recipe”
Chop up and then grind two dried castors
Add three large tablespoons of glycerin then mix well. (The consistency should be like heavy mud)
Grind up a teaspoon of mace and stir in well.
Recipe called for a small splash of creek water if lure got too thick.

**Another version was to add a dollop of sac oil to mixture

I’ve seen fennel listed as a cat attractant.

Always keep in mind that animals and birds are curious of the familiar and the unfamiliar. Just the nature of most living creatures it seems.
