Saw this guy not far from my cabin. I'm baiting for a young fella who got the bear bug. He's pumped. This guy let me walk within a hundred yards or so before he moved off. [Linked Image]

Loved hunting bear over bait in Maine.

I thought you were fishing in Florida! I had no idea you were one of those rich guys who flies his Leer Jet back and forth all the time.

Now poor Jurasic Park will hear you askin for Grey Poupon in his head!

Oh man I am going to go through withdrawals again this season. I love to bait and hunt bears. As the way it goes it will be 3 years before I draw a MN tag again.

I'm trying to think when was the last time I shot a bear, it's been six or seven years ago. I reached my lifetime quota, at least the wife thought so. I enjoy the baiting almost as much as the hunting and I live vicariously through the people I bait for. Typically they're folks who are new to bear hunting or don't have a place to hunt. Often they're younger guys who've never hunted bear before.

I get them familiar with the sites as the baiting season moves along and walk them through what to expect and cut them loose. I usually drop them off at the site and then I go loiter somewhere off in the distance waiting for a text that they've connected or nightfall comes and I go in and pick them up. I think I enjoy it more than they do.

I saw this guy tonight. About two weeks before baiting commences. The guys are pumped.

Might be able to hook you up one of these days if you're interested in Maine.

Opens here August first but I think I will wait till mid to late August before I set out baits. That way I don't run out of bait before they get fat.

It's the best pic my phone would take at that distance but it was a good size bear. Good noodle on him.

Only 3?? I had my tag in Wisconsin last year and with the new division of the zones it may be another 10 before I get another. Son had his the year before and we are hooked. Did find a 140 acres chunk to hunt in C zone and could get a tag there every few years if I wanted I guess. The north woods hunts seem more attractive to me though.
