jbyrd63, as a chaplain who works alongside the medical staff in a busy ED, I encourage you to enjoy your newfound blessing of time with your father that you've been given.
The situation you describe is not uncommon >>>>>> but the outcome you describe is.
Many patients whose heart quits that many times simply don't do as well as your pops did.
Wonderful that it did in your case!
You've all been given a wonderful gift.
Enjoy and humbly thank the One who made it so!
Cool story. Thanks for the post.

Blessings!
Mark

The monitors screamed and alarmed. He has a pace maker / defibrillator that was just replaced 2 weeks ago. It bounced him off the table and his color came back. People running everywhere. His vitals back to normal. 2 Min later white face Bam bounced off again. This happened 4 times in 6 minutes. Finally he was stable. Cardiologist came in said blockage. Has to be. Cath yesterday .One artery 100% blocked , another where he had a stint was 85 % blocked . Stint was in 2009 . My advice is if ANY of your loved ones has a pacemaker Don't let their heart Dr ONLY worry about the pace maker. They hadn't cathed him since 2009 and the stint should have been checked sooner than that. But he is feeling like a new man. Hasn't felt good for over a year . But DR now days just pass that of on Meds or OLD age. Lucky he is still with us ,but the dreaded day is still ahead of me as the cycle of life is what it is . Just really scary and my precious mother was sitting beside him during this ordeal. Please pray for him and My Mother.
Thanks
JBYRD 63

Your assessment is somewhat ignorant. You do not "check stents" . Angiography is done based on symptoms- angina or EKG changes. You don't cath someone without symptoms just because the stent has been in there a while. And, the fact that his defibrillator went off is indicative of an electrical problem in the heart; stenting is for a blood flow problem in the heart. I hope you dad does well. Please don't be blaming the people that has kept him alive for 42 years after his first heart attack. They should rather be commended.

Dean

Dean if you had been around my father as long as I have you would be able to add to this thread concerning his "symptoms" and condition. His condition and his symptoms over the past 12-18 months SHOULD have warranted a cath/ stress test or BOTH. The fact that 1 was 100% and the other 85 % was a good indication that he had problems. BUT his current (and former ) cardiologist was more concerned about his pace maker and contributed his feelings of tiredness to OLD AGE , the meds he takes, and his over all cardiovascular health. I say that as they just switched it out 2 weeks to the day before this episode. !!! Like putting a new battery in a car with a blown engine. THE defibrillator went off because his heart stopped as a result of the blockage. The Dr on call immediately diagnosed it as soon as he looked at him. As for "checking" someone's heart with a cath just for the peace of mind it happens. I am living proof . I have had 3 caths in 18 years JUST because my DAD had his first heart attack at 38. Once I had an ulcer. No EKG abnormalities. Second time was costocondritis in the chest plate. EKG normal. Third time was just this last sept 11 2020 for arthritis in the shoulder. Yes some pain but it was directional and NO high BP or EKG to support doing one.
As for praising the people that have kept him alive I applaude them . BUT since they have moved away from where we live and the heart institute took over he basically "clogged" up with no one catching his symptoms OR just dismissing them as I pointed out !

Oh yes forgot to point out . First 2 caths (age 40 and 51 ZERO blockage). One last year I had 10% in one vessel. age (57)
