Depends upon paint base, oil or latex?

I throw mine in a bucket of water, and take it out when I need to use it. In between paintjobs,I just take it out of the water after a couple days whip the water out and hang it. Havent used non water based paint for years.

Assuming it is oil base paint you use them for, yes I have also had some difficulty thoroughly cleaning a brush with Mineral Spirits , so, I used Lacquer Thinner . It can be hard on brushes because of its strength , but it takes every bit of residue out of them. I try not to use that too often.
And I keep my brushes immaculate with care. I immediately clean them after I am done, and even rinse them in spirits at times even as I use them, if it is extended time periods.
In cleaning them with anything, make sure to flatten the hairs in a v on your hand and gently take your fingernail and pull , from the ferrule on down, along the width to clean where the hair is attached.
Im referring to small brushes for fine line painting.

I've always used gas. Once it dries I make sure to loosen the bristles up

A good brush comb will help, clean thoroughly, rinse and brush well. If using the next day wrap in damp rag (thinner or water, as appropriate).

If the brush has already hardened, use paint stripper and let it soak a couple hours with a plastic bag wrapped around the bristles. If it's a cheap brush, just toss it because the paint stripper costs more than buying another cheap brush. They also used to sell "Brush Cleaner" in gallon cans, but it's getting hard to find these days.

Paint thinner or is there a better product? I use paint thinner but the brush still wants to be stiff after 2-3 rinses. $10 paint brushes need tooken care of! Use whatever you want, but make sure you clean the brush on white canvas ... then you can sell the canvas for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Ask Hunter Biden

$2 brushes don't need to be taken care of. I found decent brushes at a dollar store and I keep them wrapped in plastic during a paint project and toss them when done. I don't paint professionally but I do paint a lot.
Wish I had more time to trap....
