the reason for better than SAE or going synthetic is your trying for Paul Dobbins type mileage 600K or you want some wiggle room on oil change intervals , you know when you get in your wife's car look up at the sticker and realize she is 2500 miles past the 3K on the sticker

With the electronic fuel injection systems in today’s vehicles, motor oils don’t receive near the gasoline contamination that they did in the carburetor era. I’ve had several good mechanics tell me that if one were to send used oil to a lab for analysis, it almost always be considered good oil. I know one mechanic who changes only the filter every time, and the motor oil every other time. He only tops off the oil for what was lost changing oil. I change both oil and filter at the recommended intervals, but I suspect my buddy is correct about the motor oil’s usable life.

Pay close attention to viscosity recommendations today. Years ago, it was 10-30, 10-40…..a lot of today’s engines have much tighter tolerances, needing 0-20 or similar.

The variable valve timing and V8 V6 V4 capabilities of new V8 engines are pretty particular on oil specs. These engines been out a few years now.

This is the oil I use in my old 2000 Tacoma, and the oil gets changed once a month with a wix filter. Once a month is about 4000 miles. It now has over 712,000 miles on it. The engine still only uses a quart every 2000 miles.

So much for having to use synthetic to get a lot of miles out of an engine going by what Paul uses. My wife had a 2007 malibu 4cyl. and drove 100 miles to work round trip a day and it used a quart or so between changes which were around 5000 miles. The oil I used primarily was Citgo conventional synthetic blend 5w30. I also used the cheapest filters too. Quite often Supertech the Wal Mart brand of filter or Fram and Purolator. She had 301,000 miles on it when she totaled it hitting a deer. Was disappointed that the car went out that way, I wanted to see how far it would go.
I still use Citgo oil in my vehicles but switched to full synthetic for her 2015 malibu which it calls for Dexos rated 5w20. I did use regular conventional oil the first few changes after we bought her car in 2016. I read that you can use conventional if you don't have the full synthetic. Then Farm and Fleet had the Citgo full synthetic for about $10.00 for a 5 quart jug after rebate. The full synthetic is the same price as the conventional so I switched that car over. Still using conventional oil in my old vehicles.

Coonman you'll be fine with that oil especially the way your truck is using it. If you get the Farm and Fleet ads check when they have the Citgo oil on sale. It's quite often so grab a couple jugs and send the rebate form in. Like I said it's cheap when you do that. I got some of the Citgo conventional oil here that I paid under .50 cents a quart for after rebate a few years ago.

Napa gold filters are Wix filters they are good also.

I have two cases of Napa synthetic setting here and it says formulated by Vavoline on the boxes.

This is the Tacoma. My Tundra only has around 238,000 miles on it, and it uses synthetic 0-20.

it appears Parts master oil is an Ashland product aka Valvoline as is Napa oil they are probably the same thing in different color bottles bottled for each auto parts store.

I use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles. Change Wix filter every 5000 and Oil every 10000. Cousin raced World of Outlaw Late Models for 20 years and recommended it 20 yrs ago. Through extensive testing after being drained after each event they found that the oil could withstand high rpm racing for many events without a change. Motors were always drained after each event and filter replaced but if no contaminates were found in the oil it was often reused for a few events.

My buddy loves the great oil "debate", has to have the $12 per qt stuff. My Toyota gets changed every 10k with whatever and I mean absolutely whatever is the cheapest on sale stuff when I walk into Autozone. I now have 389k on it and running good as ever.

So I got 5 qts of stp to add to motor for use oil, had some stuff want check an rotate tires I got shop an went there , didn't rotate tires, say don't need it, change oil an wish done myself , say minor oil leak valve cover $500 plus labor , 5 hrs, not gonna fix now, oil slop quite a bit , I never slop any when change an 38 for oil change, no idea how do such stupid stuff, with oil dispenser or forget put cap on like Walmart did years ago but I not happy, I see use degreaser clean up some, but does this new oil which not clean up entirely that got on pulley in places ruin new belt ? I sure hope had enough brains to put oil cap on before spray degreaser , would that ruin engine with overspray degreaser ? How bad could smell oil on hot motor in summer get on way nta convention a 265 mile trip ? Sure wish would change myself , must have haters, something like that must be intentionally done
