124 Rats----$5.12 average----Total $634.85----minus 11% commission= $565.02

on April 17th, Groeny offered $466.25 with a $3.73 average for the same rats.

I guess it payed a little more to ship north with Toby Edwards to FHA this go around.

Guess groeny fell off the rocks eh?20 % is quite a big difference.
How much did you want for your rats from groeny when you tried to hawk them at the rat wagon?

I demanded a $5.25 average. Figured they were worth $654.50.

I bet you would have still been on the groeny rocks bandwagon if he offered you 4.50 or 5.
Guess he wanted to keep the market depressed by not coming up even a little.

Seems he has the coon market right where he wants it?
Wonder how long that will last if Russia is allowed back into the market

My Winter/Spring rats also did well. All from St. Lawrence Co.

45 sold for an Ave of $5.42, Top of $6.40/ Low of $ 4.40.

Wish would have had a 100, but I had to much area to cover nuisance Beaver calls and not enough time with full time work to focus on the rats. I caught 25 beaver in 8 days and was only able to get 12 ready for the Toby Truck with the rest rolled/vacuum sealed and frozen for Fall evenings in the shed.

Mink a bit better this time, $11.50 and $8.50, both 1x selects.

No, its an average of $5.42. I only a few small rats/damaged rats that sold below $5.25.

45 Rats sold for a total of $243.90.

I suppose that would be correct, but I don't look at deductions per animal type, but by total of all items sold.

The sale price is the price that rats sold for. That is the market price.

And they charged me shipping costs above the commission when I shipped to them.

Yup, you can calculate averages in any manner that makes you feel good.

I calculate averages by how much money each hide puts in my pocket, so I deduct commissions.

I always figure averages by what I take home. Nafa used to be 9% +$20 a year if you were a member, FHAis 11%, local fur auction is 3%, and selling outright to a furbuyer is 0%. Whatever gets me the most in my pocket is the best deal. Everybody has to make money to stay in business, the auctions you just see what they make, and they of course print your averages before commission because it looks better and there is a lot of people who seemingly can't do basic math.
I've sold mostly at auction, because I have done better take home pay there, but I figure the market is whatever I get in my pocket. Most local furbuyers are middlemen and selling on, so if they pay me 10% less I figure I make 1% better than at FHA and they make some profit to stay in business. Of course I can't say what I would have gotten at FHA if I sell them local and don't send them on, so it is a guessing game, but if I get an offer and don't sell I always compare that to my take home from the auction, not to the price before commission.

Not sure byrd.

Some years they charge, some years not.

Been a while since I shipped to FHA (2012)
so I can't remember.

When you open your account walleyed you will see a separate area where shipping was =$ 12.00
we have a depo in Winnipeg so there is no shippers charge when we drop off.

49er back off Beav when he retired that 12 $ was big money back then, he has just not moved forward with $4 gasoline expenses now.

Bob, I'd say next year's average will be better because you won't have all those early fall rats mixed in, but I am still not over it!!!

we have a depo in Winnipeg so there is no shippers charge when we drop off.

Can't find that on my account but I'll take your word for it as it sounds about right.

49er back off Beav when he retired that 12 $ was big money back then, he has just not moved forward with $4 gasoline expenses now.

No that was this spring and I charged $200.00 to set It up and only made one check and was gone. I caught 23 rats In one check.
$476.00 and I was 15 miles from home. And I still have the rats.

I think the mag is 5$ Canadian when and if they print one.
Going to have to ship a couple of red squirrels next year to pay for one.

You left out the setup fee. That's approximately 22.50 avg. You still did it too cheap.

Averaged $5.15 for western Pa rats. Lots of bites, two were had their heads chewed off…. I was satisfied.

There were $8 and $7 rats in the last sale but this one the tops were down $1-$2 dollars and only 30 cents off on a grade for a 3xl rat. square inches game for rats. Too bad average coons could not be used more for lining etc.,at least from a square inch aspect they would be worth something. If the yote market gets hit due to CG and other issues then the lower 2/3rd of the yote catch will be impacted a lot. Here in WI with Decent rats. OK coons, beaver average minus to poor yotes, smaller wild mink, poor grinners, decent reds, few greys, the options get limited if one is trapping for money. This is not the first time fur was difficult to sell let alone make money on and it most likely won't be the last. If one kept the rats and castors and left all the rest lay on the land one would not be out much money, but then is that why I trap?

I still like the sound of a $22.50 average. And groney will most likley give me $3.00 apiece for those rats.
