I was recently cleaning up some Oneida Victor #4 DLS's and noticed that one of them had what appeared to be factory stamping on one of the springs, which I'm assuming is a date (3 4 22). I've never noticed this type of stamping before, which makes me think it is not original from the factory. Any enlightenment would be appreciated by you experts out there. In advance, thank you...

I’m thinking trappers mark - possible his trapping license number. The State of Oregon uses 4 digit numbers as license numbers and they are stamped on the trap for identification rather than using trap tags.

Surely you remember who you got that trap from. Right??.

Thanks Nancy. I was hoping you'd chime in and set me straight. And, uh, no. I don't remember where I got the trap. It's been carted around for decades.

I’m shocked. I figured as meticulous as you are, that every trap would have its own log book. Where you got it. Where it’s been set. What it’s caught. Etc..

LOL

Just giving you a hard time. smile

Sorry Nancy. That particular trap does indeed have a history associated with it, but only started in 2003. Apparently, I never used it before that. In 2003, it caught only three lynx (2 males and 1 female) in 32 trapnights. For canids, I'm a coil trap user, and have downsized my arsenal (sold off or have given away most of my longsprings).
