I am a rookie at this retirement stuff as I am only 3 months into but here is what I have figured out about it already, I worked a job that had very erratic schedules, was on call 24 hours a day and was at times very stressful. Since I have retired I have lost 35 lbs because I can eat the right foods rather than a gas station or fast food meal that I had to grab because my planned 8 hour shift turned into 18 hours plus I have started a regular sleep routine rather than sleeping at night one day and trying to sleep during the day the next. I am also able to consistently exercise.

My stress level has plummeted, I didn't realize how much stress I was under until I wasn't if that makes sense. I have got to spend so much more quality time with my family and that is priceless. Now when my friends call at the last minute and say do you want to do this or that, if I do I can rather than having to plan everything out days in advance and then have it cancelled because something came up at work. It is so nice to only have one cell phone and when it rings and you look at it and it has a number that is not in your contact list you can just let it go to voicemail.

I was able to help at Vacation Bible School at Church this year and thoroughly enjoyed it, I hadn't been able to commit to that before. I have a beautiful garden that I am enjoying messing with. I already have hunting trips planned for the fall. I have spent the summer thus far doing things with my daughter and building memories there.

I am definitely not bored and am completely enjoying my retired life, I am having a ball. Those that I know that have hated retirement either didn't have any life outside work and didn't want to do things with family and friends or they didn't plan financially for retirement and weren't able to afford to do anything or even meet their basic bills.

I hope you enjoy it every bit as much as I am.

Take it easy. If you are out of shape work slow until your stamina builds back up. I work for the railroad and our average life expectancy is 11 retirement checks. This is mostly due to the lifestyle. So don’t just jump into anything full steam ahead for a while. May your retirement be LONG and enjoyable.

I will retire on June 4 2022. I gave up the athletic director job due to stress and that part of easing into retirement begins August 1st. Teaching 1 more year, I hope as of now to keep coaching softball for 4 more years. I have a really talented group coming up but if not I will make that decision. i have 41 years of coaching kids in. Just enjoy that. Love teaching but time to go. I am and will be so busy that is not a concern, and can set my schedule.

That’s retirement in a nutshell.

My favorite retirement quote….. I get Six months paid vacation ….twice a year. I also took on a side job that is noon to one, with an hour for lunch.

Guy I know was an Electrician/Plumber. When he retired, he sold all his tools as fast as he could, so he wouldn't end up working for free for all the relatives and friends. LOL

Retiring the end of August 2022. 30 years in law enforcement. I'll be 57 years old. I dont think I will get bored. Gonna advertise my beaver and predator control business then. Ive been reluctant to advertise much over the years while still employed...would have got more work than I could've done.

Also, there are some mature buck deer that are gonna get surprised after my retirement date.

I have been retired since 2006. You do what you want, you'll only get bored if that's what you want... Congrats!

I retired in 2010, haven't been bored yet.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Wok harder now than before retired, but I play twice as hard. If I have a job around the property now, I can say "Poop I'll take care of it tomorrow, today is salmon fishing day.

In August 4 years for me being retired, lots of good advice here. If a person lived in an apartment or condo I could see getting bored maybe, but with a little acreage or hobbies a person should be fine. One transition that was hard not taking social security for 3 years till 65 was having to take out money to live on instead of putting money away. Once we started to get a check every month at 65 it is like way more money than we need, but 3 years trying to live on nothing was not that easy. I always intended to run a long mink line when I retired, but 2 to 4 dollar mink kind of put that out of my mind.
