Any particular bait better than another? Plywood cover with a hole in the middle for them to get in? Peanut butter works very well for voles as bait. Voles are very easy to blind set. They make open topped runs in tall grass, that are slightly depressed in the ground, that are easy to find. If you put a mouse trap in that run, or anything else, they will run right over it. Keith

Zinc phosphide coated carrots tucked into every hole will take care of them quick.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Keith Caught 162 last year in my yard using this method plus the peanut butter on the mouse trap. I set the traps perpendicular to the run ways. You can also place the trap at the hole entrance.
