Correct but they foul hook real easy.
I think you might be better off with a cast net . unfortunately we can not use them here. MN just got use of up to 7 foot cast nets , we should add it to the spring hearing questions

Yes but something BIG might have caused it to jump. Won a big fish tournament once when the same thing happened out in the middle in 90 ft of water . Just for the heck of it I fired a willow leaf spinner blade out in the direction. Caught a 6.38 largemouth. !! Partner just shook his head and declared me lucky. But he smiled when I handed him his half of the 1000 bucks it won.

They do eat plankton and alge but when they are spawning I've caught tons on a spinner bait. Don't know if they where just looking to close but all where hooked in the mouth.
