I tried for hours today calling sporting goods stores and searching the internet for 2 1/2 inch .410 shotgun shells. Makes no difference in shot size but prefer 6, 7, 8 or 9 shot. Any advise or help would be appreciated. Not looking for freebies either. Will happily pay the going price.

I just looked at ammoseek and .410 #8 shotshells were starting at 80cent a round.

GOT THEM. Thanks fellas. Never heard of a few of the suppliers but they had the shells. Ordered 2 boxes. 80 cents a shell is absurd but when you need something the old saying "supply and demand" holds true, Thanks again for the help.

Sounds like my early days when dad turned me loose with a 410. Stipulation being that I buy my own ammo. Even back then a box of 410 was expensive for a ten year old, and yes I bought ammo at ten. I kept a running tally and my best season was 1.1 shots per squirrel. That 410 made me a much better hunter. Sold alot of tails to raise money for ammo as well.

I have a habit. When I pick up a new caliber or gauge I buy way too much ammo for it. So I got a .410 single very cheap. Garden gun, squirrels with a challenge. Along comes ammo shortage after ammo shortage. First Obama then Biden, since then I have picked up 2 more .410 shotguns, very cheap, because ammo was very scarce and expensive. I had plenty. I like the little Mossberg 500E pump, waiting for squirrel season September 15! Had you not found some shells Maddog, I would help you out. Big difference in 2 3/4 and 3 inch in a .410 if you ask me...

I take it the 3 inch shells are better for squirrel? what about pests around the house? how far are the 2 3/4 effective for vermin?

(guess you can tell I don't have a .410...yet)

I've seen more 28 gauge shells sitting on the shelves the last few months than I've seen the rest of my entire life. Just seems strange.

Nobody has a 28 ga anymore it seems like. I've seen piles of ammo for them. I personally love shooting my 28ga, so its been nice to have ammo readily available for that!

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Too bad you aren't close. I have a bunch I would've given you. The one's I had weren't worthy of shooting at anything beyond 15 yards. I'd rather use a pellet gun than that junk, and I had 4 of them.

3" hold more pellets but patterns worse than the 2 3/4. While I've killed a ton of squirrels with the 410 I've learned it's limitations. For one you can't pack enough #6 into either size to pattern worth a flip much past 25 yards, forget anything larger. I settled on 7.5 and kept shots inside 35 yards knowing I would have to pick lead out of the meat as the pellets lacked energy for a full pass through.

IMO, the 28ga is better on all counts though I still love the 410.

The 2 1/2" 410s are a challenge to find.

Local gun shop has them for 35 bucks for 25 I haven’t seen 2 3/4 for decades in a store I had a topper model h&r that killed tons of squirrels growing up Then the fox squirrel invasion happened and they were too tough for it’s limited range

At times I carry a Tarus Judge in viper country.
Mine handles 45 colt and 21/2 " and 3" 410 rounds.
Very effective at snake danger range.

Go on eBay and buy yourself a mec 600 jr / 410 loader ..used
Find the components and make some up ..
I load 410's for skeet and field , much cheaper than today's ammo prices
Plus it's fun ..

will a .410 pattern tight enough to dust English sparrows at 20 yards?
