Was mowing grass at the gun club this evening and found spots of damage in the grass. The pic isn't the greatest. The damage looked like little dirt holes. Four distinct areas with a dozen or two "holes" in each area. No actual holes, just clods of sod tore out and spread around. They are along a fence row with an old stone fence in it. Any ideas what caused it? Skunks digging? I've trapped quite a few raccoons in this area over the years, but never seen this type of damage.

It looks like grubs ate the roots on the grass, loosening it and some furbearer, possibly a skunk, pulled the loose grass up and ate the grubs.

Looks more like coon damage. Digging grubs.

Looks like I'll up the trash panda game this fall. I went a bit light on them in this spot last year.

Badger/coons will do that put down some Diazamine crystals to get rid of the grubs, no grubs no loose grass or coons ripping the grass up.

we had grubs here bad last summer. from what i could see, the skunks seemed to dig out individual grubs, and the coons would roll back the sod and eat the grubs scattered underneath. the pic appears to be where a coon tried to roll back the sod, and it basically fell apart. i watched both species grubbing in my yard. their methods were very consistent, by species.

Smoky Hollow Muzzleloaders, on Parnell Road just west of Cascade. About a mile west of Ridge Runners.

We aren't too worried about the damage, was more curious what caused it.

Skunk or raccoon, we will find out this fall. A badger would be neat, but I really don't want to release one.

If it was a badger you would be thinking a rototiller did it they often work huge patches of grass in just a night. My guess is coon, the grubs eat the roots of the grass and the coons can feel the loose sod to find the grubs then.

Did you mean diazinon? Tried to find it, was banned from residential use in 2005. Need a license now.

Skunks and coons do that around here, almost always looking for grubs. In-laws had the problem in their yard, put down grubx to get rid of the grubs. Problem solved.

See what they sell now for a grub killer. Looks like Scott’s makes a Grub X product in a couple different size bags.
