I told Jim I would send him some pictures of an interesting find I made today. I thought to post them here so everybody could see.





I found two riveted tooth first model otter 21/2 traps. A little ruff but I was sure happy to have them. I never thought I would ever find one let alone find two at once. Just goes to show keep looking guys.

In a two line stamp but I can’t see anything other than where the indentation of the stamp was. The cast eight chains are there but some knucklehead cut the rings off and added more chain.

What a great find on a couple great traps that are almost impossible to find...

The #2 1\2 is the only NH I have personally found with the patent on the frame.
There may be others.

The most common Newhouse with a base stamped with the patent date is the #1, it is on top of the base rather than the bottom. I have a small pan, a large pan and a patent date pan, all base stamped. There are also #81 and #91 with the base stamp, of coarse, these are also #1 framed traps. Less common is the #0 Newhouse with the patent date on top of the base.

As far as a patent date on the bottom of the base, I have a #3 Newhouse, clutch trap with the Jan'y. 12 1886 patent date.

I have heard of a #4 clutch trap with the patent date but I have not seen one. These 2 traps are the only #3 clutch traps that I have seen with the date.
