Had to keep warm standing in that bread line with Babushka

they knew how to keep warm because uncle Joe or vlarimir wasn't going to keep the heat too high for them

probably sewn from the less worn out parts of adult coats , and passed down through the family

I have a couple cousins adopted from Russia in the mid 90s. when my aunt and uncle went over to get them the adoption agency basically told them what "gifts" to bring for local officials to help the process , the place they stayed while there only had power and water during the day , they lined up buckets of water in the hall to flush the toilet at night

all the little girls in the orphanage had their hair buzzed off because it kept the lice down

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Not necessarily....... they had a similar standard of living to us prior to peristrioka (which showed the weekness of socialism) and it was standard for just about everyone to have fur until 1991.

As far as the heat.....the apartments were usually painfully stifling hot in the winter. Going from that to the bitter cold encouraged having toasty coats.
