The news out here is full of stories about the wildfires. Several hundred thousand acres have burnt. Not sure about the amount of timber but lots of folks have lost their houses and all contents. And it’s on,y July. Couple more months to go.

Some of the fires won’t be put out until it snows.

Think Buying land in an area that burned would be a good idea? Seems like you could get a good deal at fire sale prices and not have to worry about wild fires again for what 15 to 25 years.

Kills the soil in places it takes years to fill the landscape back in pretty ugly for sometime, I hunted Custer State park Bear Draw for Turkeys it was thick timber a few years later I drew another tag you could fly a RC plane there no problem.

The fires will keep the price of lumber up there for years.

There's a fire burning here in Idaho right now that's the 3rd fire in that spot since 2003ish. Just because it's burned before doesn't guarantee you'll have an extended time to worry about another one.

Also depends on how intense the burn is. Some go through an area quick and you'll get regrowth almost immediately. Slow, hot fires scorch the earth and turn it sterile for decades sometimes. Each fire is different

If I lived in a fire prone area there would be very limited things that would burn within a fer hundred yards of my house and none of the exterior would be either. Of course that's in a perfect world. What a terrible thing to live through.

The smoke and haze are really noticeable today in northeast Iowa. Never paid attention or smelled them before this afternoon, jet stream is really bringing it down today.
