Spent around 4 thousand in a year, truck with around 243, 000, now smelt coolant last few days an stronger today so see collant all along too , took shop an told me it seeping, an maybe stop or get worse, an lot times winter have trouble, say plastic an metal join wears out on top? Not sure, but upper $400 fix an told me keep eye on it an if don't seep any worse that not worry about low coolant till winter ,how tell head gasket cause it ? Supposed have valve cover seep as oil change guy say that last week unless it head gasket as that guy not real mechanic an probly just minor stuff , hope not heater core ? Are those plastic to ? All shop guy say is plastic radiators end up need be replace as metal plastic join at they start seep , but buy another vechile, noway get loan or afford new price, an used, end up get screw on something far worse with payments but things keep wear out an more parts it run but cost a guy lot money, so run around road trapping with all miles on very low price fur is just hobby an more for someone with lots money I think, but if prices remain low which is likely , along high gas prices, there noway I run around as much trapping as last season when had more money saved up from $600 week ui covid ui an stimous money, that stuff done, an binden is go set screw an break lots ppl with tax hikes, I take home $500 a week an nothing, bank acct keep dewidle, all pay up bills an ahead but already think take out small loan again if get radiator as more stuff need done truck come up an home, an bank acct take another hit, how can u see if heater core leak an anyone know if plastic ? I reading a leak head gasket cause it, how tell if that ? I would think run bad an see white on dipstick in summer , I see it in winter for years on dipstick from condensation but not summer ?

To my knowledge heater cores are all aluminum. Radiators have aluminum cores and plastic tanks. Yes they can start seeping after time where the tanks are crimped on. It's not uncommon. If your heater core is leaking you will likely have wet carpet on passenger floor. I have never heard of head gaskets causing radiators to leak.

park your truck on big sheets of cardboard ,run the engine till it hot to see were the coolant drips from ,at 243,000 your water pump seal could be leaking ,or other already mentioned items.

Here is my question....if it's "seeping" now why would you wait until winter to see if it gets better or worse? Wouldn't you rather fix it now instead of when it's -20°?? I know I wouldn't want to be stranded in the winter along side the road when its cold. If I remember the last time you were broke down it took the towing company hours to get to you? If it's bad now, fix it now.

I just changed out one in my explorer. It was around 100 bucks on ebay and took my son in law and hour and a half to install. It had a pretty good crack but only leaked so much and would quit, I ran it awhile like that but I knew it was only going to get worse or leave me stranded so we finally did it. It never overheated while it was leaking.

I would buy more coon traps....At $3 per coon your going to have skin 5 coon or more to get what you used to get. Simple economics.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

More $150 for radiator , I look up , I plan on well bfore winter, unless quit leak an fluke like say might be, then fall but if keeps leak much all, next week call shop, aslong overfill tank full, it ok in cool system or would it draw from tank if leak an keep cool system full ? I think warm up that maybe stop leak an expand ? As got shop, some had dry up ? I considered about make it work an back an places got go before get it shop

IF ITS LEAKING WHAT MAKES YOU THINK IT WILL FIX ITSELF????? If it swells up when it's hot and slows down it's not fixed.

And them guys with the big payments at the end of the month are laughing at the guy who stuck $4,000 in a $2,000 truck last year and complained about the repairs, cost, and repair shops all year. I was trying to give honest advice on this as I've had experience with it. And some how you can just ruin it. And no, I'm not one of them guys buried in a payment either

go to rockauto.com and find a radiator

Or post up exactly what you are driving, year, model, engine, etc and I will find it and send you the link.

look up video of how to change radiator on youtube and get it changed out yourself.
