What is this waspzilla?!? I found this monstrosity flying around my shop, so I murdered it with some brake clean. It was a tough battle, but I came out victorious in the end. It appears to be some sort of wasp, but it has three "stingers" that are a full 4" long. The pliers in the picture measure 6 3/4". This thing is enormous, and I need to know what it is, in case I have to do battle again with another one.

That species usually goes for your eyes or gonads when you're asleep.

She is a harmless Ichneumon wasp and uses the long tales to place eggs in wood cavities. I believe she lays her eggs on the larva of horntailed wasp that are in the wood cavities. Bob

Lol.....brake clean makes some good bug killer. Just gotta watch the overspray , it removes paint and things quick. Carb clean works the same way. A can of ether and a lighter is more fun , if ya get a quick blast (on fire) but not too big a blast , it will burn just their wings off and they drop to the ground alive. Then you can just step on them.

One shop I worked at had a bit of a yellow jacket problem. All the mechanics ( myself included ) had mini flamethrowers , using the ether method. The service manager was getting ticked off at us and wanted us to stop doing it. Nothing more annoying than being under a hood and having a yellow jacket pestering you while you are trying to work.

Service manager finally called an exterminator to get rid of them because he could not get us to stop flaming them in mid air.....
