Off topic a bit but I can never understand the money these people cost taxpayers simply so they can compete in some games. After all these years and cost to taxpayers (here in Canada also) what have we gained?

Yes... She does "tricks" no one else can. So they undervalue her performances to keep it close for the other competitors. There is also some talk that they asked her not to do certain flips/twists because the others can't do them.

This all happened in the prelim's. Even with the step out of bounds she still did well enough to vie for a medal in both the individual and all around.

Equate it to stock car racing of the 70's and 80's. Petty, Dale, Rusty, and the like were running away from the fields. So they started changing the rules to make it more competitive. Now you can't even tell what make and model a "stock" car is on the track because they are all the same.

Some of you guys may have this one wrong.

My girls did Gymnastic for many years and if one of them had said: Dad, I can't do it, I am pulling out... I would have supported 100%...

I don't care if you are the World Champion or the kid training at local club, missing the beam and landing on your head may not end up being a good day...I am a trained Medical First Responder and had to leave the stand more than once to provide medical aid to kids who got injured at competitions ....one day I provided first aid to a kid who had missed the trampoline and landed in the space situated between meshing and frame of the trampoline (where springs are connecting frame with messhing) and as a result he fractured one of his legs very bad his parents were feet away from us when it occurred, glad it was not my kid...couldn't wait for the day they both decide to end Gymnastic... very difficult to watch at times...

If they are not % into it...it is a very dangerous sport... there is not much room for errors when you are so many many feet up...they need to get it right and land properly...never mind the Gold Medal having to spend your life in a wheelchair is not an option.

These athletes are putting a ton of hours trying to make Country proud...pressure is high, body is taking a beating and several millions to judge...

Just my opinion.

I did 49 . SHE FELL OUT OF BOUNDS on her first pass in the prelims. NO WAY SHE WAS GETTING THE GOLD. Yes she has been great in the past but LOSING is something shes not used to and couldn't handle. YES it got to her because she knew the rest of the games was basically over for her as far as receiving a gold medal. She wrapped her thigh trying to say that was why but did stand up and say no injury just did not have the concentration. Hard to keep on going when your ego is that big and you know you won't come out on top.
Where did you get your insight on what was wrong with her. If she had been white the news would have CRUCUFIED HER...

If it is that dangerous and deadly why is it not outlawed. Heck kids get hurt riding bikes but the powers that be don't ban them ? Yes you may be right in your cases. BUT why did she wrap her thigh as soon as it happened . BUT the next day admitted NO INJURY !!!!

That and the fact that you (and I) would only be qualified to hand out towels for any Olympic sport.

I think the Olympics are great. My wife and I love them. A 17-year old HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR from Alaska just aced out all the favorites to take gold in the one-hundred meter breast stroke! And the favored American competitor congratulated her with good grace.

They don't give up their individual right to free speech just because they are on the US team. If they represent the best of America, then let them illustrate free speech rights to the world.

Hunter 1, you made an excellent post.

Most of these guys are gold medalists in the internet sports of whining, conspiracy theories, misinformation and political deity worship.

If that's the case she should have quit before the trials. The "GOAT" as she likes to be called, doesn't quit on your teammates. The possibility of injury is involved in every sport....maybe they should be forced to wear helmets....the least she could have done is sucked it up for team competition and quit the individual stuff...call Visa....her sponsor and ask them if your Visa card is going to suddenly stop working....
