It would depend on what type of seats you have, but I have seen seat covers with a scabbard built into the back side.

My seat covers have loops for 2 rifles if the dogs not with me it’s muzzle down on the passengers side during prime times.

when you put your rifle muzzle down on the floor do you worry about getting something jammed in the barrel or dinging up the rifling?

my old model 700 22 250 i just push the round down and close the bolt on an empty chamber. hold the trigger back while i am closing it so the rifle isnt c o c k e d. It has a c o c k i n g indicator so with a glance i can check it. its always possible the rifle is loaded but i can see that indicator and know its not c o c k e d and so incapable of firing. It dont take long to open and close the bolt to load the rifle.

On semi's i remove the magazine and lock them open. My old pump shotguns i leave the action open. even pump shot guns can be unloaded-loaded in less than a minute.

I am sure I am about to be chastised but that is how i do it.

I’d rather shoot my foot off then my head if it came to that I put the muzzle on a glove or old kitchen towel not sure what would get in the barrel that way.

A standing rack would be better I hate when my Mini slides around but here we have few regs on varmints so it has to be handy.

Used to have one of those window racks in my old chevy pickup. Was a good way to carry my guns to school. So did a lot of other people. Always wondered how many of those guns were loaded. Dont remember ever hearing of somebody getting shot from one of the racked guns but I bet its happened. Used to make a pick up seat cover with a pouch in the front where the bottom front of the seat would be. It held a gun. Out of sight and the door had to be opened to remove the firearm. Never heard of anybody getting shot by one of them either but I bet it happened too. Got a friend in Colorado that shot the transmission in his dads pickup when his 270 fired as he closed the bolt. They were elk hunting and had to walk quite a few miles as I remember. That story is more about amateur gun smithing though.

I dont think any system is perfect.

Hmmm, I usually carry my rifle in a soft case on the passenger side. Soft case unzilpped, easy to grab when needed, no worries about gunk in the muzzel.

If you'd be in a spot where you've got one in the chamber, keep the bolt handle up. Can't be too careful with your guns. But If I've got someone riding with me, or the dog, I'll keep it in the back seat or laying on the dash.

If you dont have time to open the bolt, pull it back, push it forward then close it, you don’t have time to make the shot anyway

Just push the round down with your thumb and close the bolt over the top of it. Hold the trigger back while closing the bolt and it wont be c o c k e d. Or get dry fired or be loaded

My Mini I can rack a round on the way out of the seat no problem after I clear the truck ain’t no critter worth being stupid for, if not on my home turf I don’t even mess around it’s not worth the hassle.

Front seat (muzzle down) or one of those behind the seat loops. Mostly front seat--I shoot at a lot of hogs off the hood of the truck.

Muzzle down is tough on the crown.

You drive a lot smoother roads than me if your rifle will stay on the dash

What about the racks that mount on the ceiling or top of the cab inside. Fast to retrieve, out of site, solid secure mounting and out of the way. I’m 6’4" the boy is 6’5" it doesn’t hinder headspace at all depending on how you mount it.
