I know quite a few who do. I like fish but not that much considering there's other ways to get them.

Maybe fun, but it's devastating to the breeding size cat's.

Maybe.... but the places that have been famous for noodling forever keep producing tons of giant flats year after year.

I would do it, in fact I'd love to do it, but it's illegal here. My dad told me stories of him and my uncle doing it, nearly 70 years ago. Like I said I'd do it in heartbeat if it were legal to do so.

This is as close as we can get to it...

Numbers of flathead cats noodled doesn't even make the tiniest of dents in the numbers caught by professional fishermen. I think that rumor was made up by guys jealous or too scared to noodle them. Like catch and release BS on bass, there may be something small to it but not to the extent some want you to believe.

Exactly. We took 30-50 pound fish out of the same holes for 20 years in a small lake in Western Oklahoma and when the drought ruined the spots we were still getting them just as steadily as we were 20 years before. But I have also turned a lot of fish loose and caught them again later. I caught the same female out of the same hole 4 years running.

It's a very effective way to catch fish. We always go underneath flat rocks on the bottom of the river. Just keep your fingertips on the bottom or you'll get bit which is always a surprise. I will not go in holes in the bank...

Getting bit is half the fun Gary! Nothing like feeling a rush of water coming up with you and the next thing you know there's a 45 pounder Biting down halfway up your forearm! When they hit you people around you can hear it above the water and feel the rock shake.

I'm familiar with that. smile I remember a fella ducking under water to go under a rock and seeing his baseball cap come off when he ducked under and floated down the river with the current. Red, white, and blue hat as a matter of fact.

I agree ADC the amount of fish that can continually e taken out of lake or river amazing
We have gotten into taggin a few the past couple years and keepin what we will eat and it’s like there is an endless supply of them
I have noticed depending on the lake or river the will be an average size to what you catch
Kinda like showing a pic of a couple 30 lb flatheads with the knife just to hear the squeal lol

Totally anecdotal BS put out by some fish and game agencies. They have zero research showing that noodling effects catfish populations.

I have never done it, but I sure do like to watch Hannah Barron do it on you tube. I can't put buy finger on how she makes it so interesting, but she sure does.

I use to do it alot and loved it. Here in Tennessee we don't call it noodlin; we call it hoggin. We would go into holes under the river bank, under brushpiles and in holler logs. .Most of my hoggin buddies have died and besides that, we have way too many cottonmouths now.
