The flat topped older houses are likely being used for feed holes. They may mud them up in the fall if there is a lot of beaver there.

I have a useless observation for you. I have seen beaver eating salmon. Probably doesn't apply to MICHIGAN.

Three houses are on a 5 acre pond I trapped last year. Between me and a buddy who trapped one corner of it we caught 23. We definitely didn't catch them all.

A lot of our coastal lakes have a fair amount of beaver and you hard pressed to find even one peeled stick. They live off of submerged lilly rhizomes. But find some old dead snag that has fallen into the water and there will be lots of chewing on the dead wood to grind their teeth down.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
