Well, back to the cabbage question. 10 gallon of Kraut should get us through the winter. (it's just the wife and I) So I picked 3 nice heads today and some peppers and other stuff to take to the local food bank this morning. On the way home, I stopped to get stuff to make a mess of stuffed cabbages. GOOD GRIEF! I picked 1 large head when I got home and two "smaller" heads...... 20 pounds of meat later..... grin The cabbage leaves were so big it was like wrapping a meatloaf in cabbage! laugh Cooking them up now, guess what's for dinner? Going to vac pak and freeze the rest for quick meals when I'm to busy or don't feel like cooking. Took over a gallon of my tomato sauce.... LOL....

Funny you mention that. In my area of the country, we also call them "pigs in a blanket". However, in many parts of the country, they call them "cabbage rolls" or "stuffed cabbage". To many people, "pigs in a blanket" is a corndog or something similar.

We always called them "pigs in a blanket" but my polish uncle called them golumpki.

Oh how I enjoy pig in a blanket. We do it a bit differently though. Instead of a tomato sauce on top I cover it in saurkraut.

We have a big Polish family as neighbors. The Matriarch is nearing 98. Her husband passed away near 10 years back, so she now lives downstate near most of their 10 surviving children. They have a "Round Up" here every July......there are scores of them. The food those folks cook up is legendary. When they all head home at the end of the long weekend reunion, they always bring over a care package of that Golumpki stuff. Oh man is it ever delicious. It is like meatloaf rolled in cabbage leaves with some sort of tomato sauce. I don't exactly eat it til I'm sick, but I will eat it until I'm starting to not feel so well!

Your cabbage posts made me go check mine. Not quite firm enough.
Might try making kraut for first time.
Seems simple enough but every recipe has different salt ratio.
So it probably is personal preference.

We like cole slaw and cabbage fried with fish too.

My wife makes a stuffed cabbage roll and refers to them as cabbage rolls. Pigs in a blanket would be a wiener wrapped in a flour mixture and baked not unlike a corn dog. I don't care what they're called. I just like to eat them.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.
