Never been that lucky myself, but for those of you who are, to what extent, if any, do you decorate your home? Talking walls shelves, etc.

Plain Jane / bare bones / sparse?

Practical?

Other?

Just have pelts strewn around on things and walls. Plus various wildlife art I've done or purchased at conventions

I have an area in our basement with a couple recliners and my tv, all my hunting/trapping videos, my books ect. I have a turkey fan/deer rack, old traps, old pics and trinkets that were my dads or grandpas, wildlife . Only one good lazy boy recliner otherwise all the furniture, coffee tables, bookshelves ect are used hand me downs. I am not a picky person-just like to be comfortable. If i was single this is how my entire house would be.

X2 as well as some antique weapons such as guns, swords and knifes along with some oddities that I have picked up over the years, most of them are just there without any real attempts to make them into some kind of display

HayDay; I don't decorate at all. Got my '... pile of empty brass' tin poster on the wall by this desk. Other than that? No. My whole place is a genuine 'man cave' Nothing here that isn't practical or entertaining. Even have a cut down IBC in the corner, where my snapper turtle lives.

Plain, concrete floors, throughout. Cob webs everywhere I like spiders and despise flies. No TV. No radio. Outhouse is an outhouse. And I'm disgustingly content grin

My decore has been described by past GF's as "Early Attic". I'm comfy with that!

I don't live alone wife and 3 kids even if 2 of them are adults currently

bed frames are construction lumber to provide storage below storage is rubber made totes

I bought an entertainment center about 19 years ago had it Amish made with shelves and doors and such , learned in a coupe years kids were hard on things very hard on things so wife and I are very utilitarian in our furniture.

mattresses and office chairs have been the only non hand me down or purchased used furniture since

the wife makes art and quilts and such that are wall hangings in the house

if it was just me I would probably have a big garage and workshop/ barn with a small apartment or part of the barn I lived in off the back or upstairs.

I would probably have a cork board to hang pictures on , family pics and fishing pics and suff like that probably no frames just pictures with thumb tacks , currently the dining room has a plate rail , we don't collect plates it is all small fames with family photos , my parrents , grandparents , inlaws , kids picture hunting pictures.

maybe a shelf for trophies

I am not much for tchotchkes but I like a few pictures especially hunting pictures

there wouldn't be much for stuff on my walls and they would be a nice shade of off white , and the same off white in every room and ceiling unless it came painted other colors I see no point in painting a perfectly good wall unless it is obnoxious

Personally, I am a minimalist. I hate clutter. If it doesn't have a purpose or broken it's in the trash. Right now my garage has stuff all over the floor and it's driving me nuts just looking at it.

I know several people that hate throwing stuff even if it's broken behind repair. I know others that have to have every wall and corner with stuff.

Reason I ask is spousal unit has two brothers One single and never married. The other now on 2nd wife.......first one died of cancer. Both maintain really nicely decorated homes, and by their choice and them the one's doing it. By my count, the single one may have more art work hanging on the walls than bare walls........plus interior walls lined with end tables, wall tables, etc., plus shelves that hold various nic nacs.......glass figurines, scented candles.....flower arrangements and stuff, plus hanging plants in the corners. And worst of the worst, anything fit to sit on covered with a bunch of throw pillows. Both maintain nicely manicured lawns, flower beds, etc. Would have doubts about the one, but both seem to do the same thing. They actually look for stuff like that to put out.

If that were me, my shelves.....if I had any......would have something practical like a box of .22's, a pocket knife, jelly jar full of screws and nuts....binoculars, etc.

Just a different world than anything I would ever see for myself....but perhaps I am an unsophisticated clod of dirt?

Single here, lots of stuff----everywhere. I sort of keep it clean (by my standards). Great cellar, I am there more than here, down there no TV and cell phone that I use at least once a month.
Suits me just fine.......jk

I have parts , left over lumber , metal , hardware and all sorts of things , my wife complains some about this , a lot less when I walk out to the garage grab something bring it in and fix what broke

old shoes I always keep the last 3 pair , never know when you need a pair of beater shoes to paint in or something

I live alone a week at a time during deer season. Lots of reading during mid day. Not big on decorations or taking out the garbage. I manage.

I know a guy like that. He has always been single. Years ago his place was empty except for appliances, TV and computer, until his sister decided to "decorate" it for him. Now it's exactly like what you described your brother in-law's house as.

nothing fancy here, actually I need to downsize quite a bit by years end if I can get the plan for my future into action for 2022.

Pray for me to be able to do that, fellas!

Since my wife passed away 20 years ago I have been decorating my whole house with antlers, taxidermy mounts, furs, traps, and mounted fish I have caught. My basement is full of fishing tackle and mounts as well. When I say whole house I mean every room including the bathroom. I seriously don't have any wall space left over to put up any more "stuff". Some of the stuff I have collected I got from others but I could not pass them up since I am attracted to those type of things. Call me weird but I have surrounded myself with stuff that brings back memories and things that are just plain cool to look at. Keeps me happy when I am in the house...always something to look at. This white oak burl table is one example and I have about 5 diamond willow lamps too to keep with the "woodsy" theme. Gotta be something wrong with me but my strange habit is not hurting anyone and my girlfriend of 19 years puts up with it on her weekly visits. (she's not 19 years old...that would be wishful thinking)

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
