The contract states everything Cost per tear off, price of Installation and material cost. There are only two valleys and It's just about flat as to pitch. I made a deal with him I'm going to cover material cost and he's going to eat the labor cost. I think that's fair. I went with this guy since he was about $2,000 cheaper then the other 5 bids I got. I got a question beav. Do You think if it only took 25 squares would he of refunded you some money? I realize he found the problem that he was shorted but he gave you a bid and should of never came to you wanting you to pay the difference. just my opinion and i never did that if i figured a bid. If i figured it short i ate the cost

An estimate is a bid!!! He’s stuck for it and will measure better next time!! Been contracting 40+ years now and ounce you quote a price your stuck for it!! Don’t pay him Anouther dime make him finish roof! Not your problem hae can’t estimate a job. This! I’ve been a contractor for close to 25 years. Fully agree.

All I know is I never, ever go with the cheapest of the lot. There's a reason for this 100% of the time. Middle of the road'ers for me. Or the most expensive if they're worth it. Some are. Trim carpenters from example. As a trapper who views my predation work as a vocation (same as roofing) I'm never the cheapest. Ever. Many times the highest. For a reason called productivity, job well done, quality, etc. They (us/them/we/I/me) get what you pay for 100% of the time. Cheap is as cheap does. Good luck with the roof Beav. I'd say what's done is done. Deal is a deal.

Contractors are like the populations in general, some focus and work hard to improve and others are lazy. Skilled labor gets a lot done.

One thing I will say the man and his crew did a very nice job and the clean up was perfect. I had talked to several individuals that had work done by him before I signed the contract and all were more then satisfied with his work.

I hope the 9 square were from the same lot and the colors match. Too bad the supplier put you and your contractor in the position to have to consult the experts here on Trapperman…LOL

See it all the time in concrete work. Your bid is too high, XYZ company is cheaper. Almost always cheaper to find someone to do it right the FIRST time than to fix it the 2nd. That is the price of education for the customers that want CHEAP. Always look at contractors work and talk to previous customers.
On my jobs, I always explain to to customers what I'm doing and why? I treat it as if it was mine and always plan for future add-ons and do it right whether it is me or the next contractor to add-on.

Contractor should eat the cost. You hired him based on the price he quoted, it’s his fault he underestimated. At the very least he should eat the materials cost. This

Mark kinda beat me to it with his response. Had a galvanizing business for a number of years. Make a godzillion bids over the phone from folks in the iron business in 3-4 states, Alberta, BC. including goberment jobs. Always honored my bid! Only time it might of changed is when whatever rolled into my yard was not what I was told it would be. A quick phone call would clear that up quickly in a win win conversation . Same with salesmen who would give me a bid on a product for my shop .I always said give me your best and finally price cause I'm a busy guy and won't tell you what the other suppliers have quoted. Only one I never could deal with was my zinc supplier outa Trail BC. The price was the price per 40,000 # truck load and that was a given. Could have ordered it out of Japan but it was junk zinc and was very noticeable as it came outa the kettle. Did it put the right amount of coating on the steel? ya but the look the steel had was not the bright diamond look we were use to from BC but every year their contract with the union would come up when their fishing season started and it depended how good the fishing was how long the were shut down so I always tried to have some what of a stock pile but one year fishing was really really good and their shut own lasted longer then usual so hello Japan. . Any way a deal should always be a win win for both sides.
