257 Roberts and 270 WSSM. 270 will get my attention once in a while with its recoil but when I pull the trigger whatever I am shooting at falls down. The 257 has been in my family since the 1950s and has harvested many many deer, elk, bear and one moose. It is my wife's rifle now.

I have had the good fortune to harvest a few white tails with my three “oddballs”. A 7.7 jap that my great uncle passed on to me, a 8x56r Steyr that is a beauty, and my 7x64 Brenneke that is only not popular here in North America. Absolutely love all three guns and will never leave my family. Unless of course they fall out of my canoe somday. whistle

I see several mentioned the .257 Roberts. Always wanted one but just never could justify one when I had a .25-06 paid for.

I'll add the .244 Remington to the mix some if not most know it better as the .6 mm Remington . Then the .7 x 57 and the 8 x 57 I ended up with a few boxes of each at a auction sale and do you think I can find a rifle in either caliber now ha ha

I’m a weatherby guy to begin with so odd is normal for me like the 224, 300, 6.5x300, 460, but the odd ones I like are the nitros like the 500, and 700, I’ve read about a 900 but I’m not if it’s fact or fiction, and by reading the previous post I guess I’m about the only one into big calibers.

45/70 isn't odd here, tossup between it and the 30/30 as the most common bear rifle among hound hunters. Marlin brought a lot of new life to it when they came out with the Guide Gun. I've put an awful lot of rounds through mine, very comfortable gun to shoot. 257 Roberts is a really nice caliber that I've always wanted but never bought one. Wife uses a 260 Remington, not really mainstream, but not that odd either.

I bought a .222 Remington Magnum and a couple old boxes of ammo about 20 or so years ago. Found a couple bags of brass once when up in Minnesota and bought them both. Good thing I did as I've not seen any since. Never have found loaded ammo for it. It was made in the late 60s and has a "pre-lawyer" trigger which is a beautiful crisp aid to shooting. Puts five shots in a dime at 100 yards.

Also have a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine which apparently is not that common. Shoots well, hardly kicks, and it is LOUD! Keep thinking about trying it on varmints sometime, but just been ringing steel and ears thus far.
