Picture of the last good dog I had. His ability far exceeded my ability to train, I held him back with my inexperience but he was still amazing. He was a Lion, he would gladly retrieve geese or track a wounded Coyote into the Swamp, Raccoon in the yard, not for long. Poor fellow died at 6 of a stroke about 5 years ago, never could replace him. Got an English Cocker Spaniel to train as a hunting dog but she wasn't cut out for it, gave her to my mother and she is just a fat house pet. Started looking for a new pup but trying to find one like this Lab again will be tough.

Anyone else have a Dog they're feeling nostalgic about?

His very last retrieve was a late season Goose that hit the ground and started running, tracked it about 500 yards through swamp and woods and came back with it, irreplaceable.

Good post DS. Don't they say a man will have one great dog in his life? I've had two (outta many)
Both were Brittanys as I love the versatility of their hunting and their aim to please at all times.
I now have my best, and last dog, Grace.
Granddaughter to Nolan's Last Bullet, 6X American Field Champion, 32x NSTRA Champion, and 6x National NSTRA Champ.
If I was a field trail dude, Grace woulda been right in there.
Gorgeous Brit.
Absolute brute for a female.
Crazy awesome hunter (Maverick line out of Kansas - they don't breed anymore)

Never had any pups outta her because we're just too busy.
I will not get another dog after she waves goodbye in about 4 years (my Brits always live about 12 years it seems).
Dogs are something else like you say.

Had a Yellow Lab many ago, we had her for almost 12 years and had to put her down due to cancer...Great hunting dog. It flushed grouse and reterived just about everything I shot .... I could not get a better a family pet. Taking her to the Vet on her last day was one of the hardest things I had to do...

We now have a little lint ball on four legs...Rescue dog that was given to us, an older dog. I didn't want it but lost on the vote count (4 to 1) so we ended up adopting the little guy...

I explained to my wife and the kids how hard it will be when it is time...and it will be a tough day when he goes...

I think I'm looking for the right pup of any breed this time, something with a ton of gumption and the heart of a Lion like my old dog, no timid or anxiety ridden dog this time hopefully.

DS,
Had mine trained as a pup for three months in eastern Nebraska and I can't explain how obedient and well trained she has always been these 8 years as a result. Best dog money I ever spent.
Pheasant Bonanza in Tekameh, NE. Brent is the dude!

This is Dexter, my JRT. 15 lbs of dog but 1500 lbs. of attitude. Would go to work with me to the job sites and remind me when it was break time. Would go for our evening walks and it seemed he would put on a mile for every 10' I would walk. Always a clown and smart as a whip, could always make me laugh! Hated squrrels, raccoons, fox or woodchuck and came away with his share of scares. I've had a few good dogs but only one like Dexter. RIP my old friend.

Roscoe is almost 12 and slowing down FAST.
He has been an incredible dog even as a pup.
His favorite thing is treeing squirrels and waiting for me to grab the. 22.
Pics from this morning.
I will be a blubbering mess the day he leaves me.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Had a blue healer that I carried to my deer stand when she was a puppy. She found a friend’s nice buck when she was less than a year old. Started letting her find my deer, even when the deer never ran after being shot. The dog loved it. Turned out that she was a natural and my friends would call me to have her find a deer that had lost. She died at age 14. I sure miss my riding and hunting partner.

If 625,000 loving dogs in America were going to die of a mostly preventable virus, imagine the line of pet owners at our vets offices to get the pet vaccine.

I don't see any legitimate reasons to not get vaccinated, but give it a rest. No one is going to change their mind at this point. All you're doing is hijacking threads and making other members despise you. I got the Moderna vaccines myself.

The vaccination horse has been beaten to a bloody pulp, that is oozing down into the abyss.

I’m convinced that the good Lord only gifts us with one great dog in life. Mine was Storm a Border Collie I bought in college. Was blessed to have her as a friend and coworker for 10 years. Smartest dog I’ve ever owned and I’ve owned some smart ones. She knew over 30 commands and lived only to please me. Miss her everyday. Had 2-3 unbelievable bird dogs but none of them surpassed her all round wit.
