Luke 6:41 is among a long list of misappropriated and misused passages from scripture. Instead of the more proper application of self introspection and discernment of one's own heart and motive it is more often turned and used to attack the messenger and in turn to deflect and justify the original wrong.

My point is this, we as followers of Christ when we come together or in private worship through song that such song is edifying and correct in all parts for we do so to God alone. Imagine just how disrespectful and angering it would be to sing to the Creator of all words and doctrines in direct violation of what He laid down?

Music as in all things is created by God for his edification not merely to entertain and amuse. It has purpose and meaning.

No but I do know that the original and most all revisions were almost as contentious as the discussions that set the biblical cannon, lol. Seriously, look into the history of it. Commitees parsed every song for doctrinal correctness. Even the great Fanny Crosby drew fire for being to contemporary.

That's sort of the point I was trying to make earlier.
The lyrics of many of their songs are fine from a theological perspective. But the teaching from the pulpit of these churches can be whacky. It seems like the two would go hand in hand but they don't.
An example might be Martin Luther, some of his teaching was off-base, but who doesn't agree with the famous song he wrote; A Mighty Fortress is Our God.

Many hymns that we treasure today while doctrinally good were written by writers that held opinions that some might call heresy.

I don't blanket condemn all contemporary Christian music today but I fear for the lack of doctrine and soundness of teaching both in song and preaching in today's church, the whole tickling of ears thing.

I know eyes glaze over and attendance drops off when the pastor dusts off his old theology books and digs down hard into doctrine from the pulpit but we have a generation of believers that can not fully explain exactly what they believe in detail. Know I know in my heart that is not a requirement for I, like the thief on the cross, hold fast to a simple confession. But as the dark clouds gather and I think we can all agree the tribulation to come we will see either a great falling away or apostacy of many.

I remember a time when Sunday evening services were preceeded by something called church training where the why we believe and doctrines of the church were taught. Now most congregations don't even have evening services much less Sunday school.
