We normally just have 2

This year we have at at least 12. They seem to fight all the time. We sit on the deck in afternoons and you have to watch them. They dart so quick they almost fly right in to you.

I quit wearing red hats, it was either that or risk getting a eye put out.

Hummingbird pie is good but it takes so dang many !

We have 3 feeders and all 3 are busy. Its not unusual to have 5 fighting over each feeder at the same time. They sure are aggressive, and if they were the size of a crow they would be dangerous.

I seen squirrels kill wood ducks sticking there head in a den tree but River Birch WOW

I’ve stared using a 1 to 3 ratio mix after reading an article stating that ratio is closer to nectar than the 1:4 ratio. Hummingbirds seem to like it.

Big difference in behavior during territorial breeding season and non. Our resident male will hardly let its own mate near IT'S feeder. Her and young ones have to feed from another feeder which male can't readily see to guard.

Yeah I had a real bully during nesting time, but he got overpowered and put in his place when the big crowd showed up

Two this AM, first ones in a couple weeks. I see the cedar tree where they fly out of now.

We used to have a lot more than we do now but we also cut down on the number of feeders from 10 to 2. A hummingbird "guy" in our area saw some pictures on my wifes facebook and asked he he could band some. The following year we had the same basic group back with one returning 5 straight years. That male didn't need a band as he was very distinctive and was always the most dominant male around the feeders often defending 4 or 5 at a time. We knocked down the number because it became hard to walk around the yard without almost getting hit.. Cool birds to watch for sure.

Young of the year are hitting the feeders hard now and the parents are defending feeders hard right now. So fun to watch.

The young'ins are fun to watch. They are paired up and investigate everything together. Eat together. We have eight or nine buzzing around. Can't id them as easy. They are emptying the favorite feeder every three days. I can get within inches of them if I'm wearing a red shirt.
