A lot of stands are made by the same company and sold to several “manufacturers”. You’ll notice several brands will have stands that appear almost identical. I like the ones with the large, full size I guess, platforms. The platform should extend under your seat, not just under your feet. The suspended type seats are more comfortable than the shelf type seat, at least to me. Several brands have these type stands, and I think many are made at the same place. I think I have a Muddy brand but there are others that look the same. Bring some help to get it set up. A tractor and loader is helpful too. Things are ridiculously heavy to get set up. Edit: just an example of the style I prefer. I think they run around $250.

I've been sitting with The Boy for 3 years now and I don't think any ladder stand is ideal but we do sit in them. Whatever brand you get be sure to practice getting into and out of them before season. Getting harnesses hooked up and keeping them out of each other's way can be a challenge. I'd also practice shooting from the stands so you can figure out who sits on which side depending on where you think the game will come from. Then practice how to move safely if the animal shows up in the wrong place. Most two man stands are in reality a man and a half lol. I prefer a well made pallet stand with sides but they are not easily moved so we use ladders more and more. Sorry I'm not much help but hope you find what works for you guys.
Be safe out there. Good luck!
Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

My group built a father-son stand with shooting windows at different heights to accommodate children. It is in a thicket with a bulldozed shooting lane that we bait. Kids get shots just inside of 100 yds. Most dads don't even take their own rifle.
Never wanted to sit in a stand with another adult. Might as well hunt from the truck and drink beer. Thats fun too !

I have an Ameristep 2-man, but have never used it with anyone else...it's decent, but the foot rest could extend under the seat more. The seat pad is not comfortable, so I switched it out for a better seat cushion. A couple other little things that I don't care for, but that goes for most ladders. The extra room is nice...a flat spot for extra gear, pack, lunch, thermos, etc. without having to move much

)pinch pan]Millenium—very comfortable—better have a harness because you will be sleeping a lot X2 best of the best in my opinion. I have 4 ladders and a few hanging stands from Millenium...hands down the most comfy and secure Ive been in. Everyone is a little different, try to sit in several different stands before purchasing and see what fits you best. I really chuckle when I think about the contraptions I used to sit in 30 years ago...some of which were homemade

1" x 6" X by however long with v notches in both ends to wedge in between 2 limbs in Iowa and graduated to hand built wood platforms in Idaho. In Idaho built big enough so my very young son had his own little green plastic chair and I had a big one of the same. Sure miss those days.

Millenium make a great aluminum stand. I have 3 of the M100 hang-ons...very comfortable and durable.
But, their ladder stands are made of steel and unless their paint has been improved, the stand will begin to rust within a year or so. Pitting will occur rapidly. Within 3 years the stand will be unsafe to use due to crumbling rust at the bolted joints and thinly painted areas. Their ladders will need to be removed and sheltered annually or your $$ investment wont last long.
