Picked this one last night. Haven't cut it open yet to see if it's woody or not but this brand seems to be the easiest for me to grown and rarely get woody. I plan on frying it up with some butter and a little garlic.

Let us know how that turns out. A picture of the finish product before you eat it would be great. Thanks

I’ve never seen a radish that big or heard of them being cooked. Learn something new every day.

What variety is that? Everything I've grown turns woody by this time of year unless you planted a few weeks ago.

Their called German Giants. Never could grow a good radish until I found these. Most I don't let get that big but some I let go to seed so I have some for next season, that one didn't want to go to seed I guess. Here are a few about the size I normally pick. The quarter is for comparison. [Linked Image]

Being a bi-annual went you plant early they go to seed and become woody.
planted after the 12-12 daylight they just grow.
so the planting now is best for fall harvest in 30-45 days

looks like a lot of flea beetle chewing on the leaves.

I might have to try those. The ones I grew this year did ok but nothing close to that size. How are they for flavor?

Good flavor both cooked or raw, sometimes you might get a hot one but that's with most radishes I believe. These mature in about 3 weeks so I plant a row every weekend so I always have radishes to munch on.

I planted German Giants this year and they are good radishes. I have never been able to get one that large w/o getting woody, hollow or split.

Fried half of it up for lunch this afternoon. A bit past it's prime but was still good. Raw it had a little bite to it while fried it had no bite at all. Interesting taste to it, can't quite describe it but's good. [Linked Image]
