Dont dwell on the negative stuff, make changes in your life to get away from the stuff thats bringing you down.
And clean out your head.
An old Indian Hunter once told me when I was down-"Moose hunting is good, thinking about moose hunting is good"I live by that simple direction and nothing gets me down.

There you go and if you want to investigate others.
Here's a link to some near Brookhaven that I was able to Google easily. Psychology Today is a wonderful resource.

Dont just seek out “magic pills”. A lot of “medical professionals” are quacks and turn to chemicals to fix stuff immediately. Remember what they call someone who graduates medical school in last place? Doctor!

I will second the caution on magic in a bottle. I'm not saying that there are not genuine maladies that are best treated with pharmaceuticals but that brain issues are complex and still not fully understood and many pharmaceuticals come with other issues. One problem is that any general practitioner can proscribe any medication and often do without fully understanding the problem. This can, and has, lead to others issues from simple ineffectiveness to compounding the original problem to addiction.
I know there's one doctor locally with a penchant for handing out Xanax and caused serious problems for my family.

Wolfdog.. You have shown strength to inquire amongst this forum. You have been reaching out to family and friends and that openess is good, but trained therapists and psychologists have actual tools that can help. If you don't trust yourself then please solicit a friend to keep your firearms for you for awhile. People take medicine for all kinds of things and trained professionals, including psychiatrists can figure out what may help you. My son took heavy meds for a year or so and he told me he needed them at that time to "put the fire out" in his brain. For many folks it gets them over the hump to where their natural correct thinking can again gain the upper hand and work toward peaceful recovery.
You are not alone. Best wishes

My dad died suddenly in 2009 and my family convinced me to go see a Dr about a year later because they didnt feel i was dealing with things well enough. Immediately-pills. And i took them for a while. Aside from certain side effects in my “nether regions” that the gf didnt appreciate, they made me not care about anything. To the point i was taking unnecessary risks in my job and it didnt bother me one bit. I was kind of just numb to caring about anything. Luckily i identified this on my own and the pills were a thing of the past. Point is it was the first time i talked to the doc and this was the immediate solution. If the first person you end up seeing gives you the feeling they dont know what theyre doing, try someone else. Good luck.

If you having anxiety then meds can help (xanax or similar) used sparingly. For depression you need to find the tools within yourself to pull away from it. Meanwhile reduce any stress that you have as much as possible..start an fitness program asap and that will release natural 'feel good' chemicals and hgh......you can PM me anytime if you want to speak one on one...I counseled troubled inner city youths for a while and have seen my share of personal troubles which I survived (still alive and kickin).....good luck.

Exercise/Hard work is a good antidepressant. Keep busy with your hobbies. Get enough sleep, it all helps.

Good luck.
