However, the typical color for Amanita muscaria is the classic red with white flecks, some of them grade into yellowish like the one shown. There are also yellow Amanita with white flecks that can be significantly more toxic than the red ones. And the white Amentia are rightly labeled with a skull and crossbones, as well as a very toxic brown cap and white flecked variety. For this reason I would never be tempted to eat one like the one shown above; only the distinctly red and white muscaria.

I know I will get chewed-out by you fungi-phoebes for suggesting this, but Amanita muscaria (red with white) are edible if the proper precautions are taken when cooking them. Not really for the novice though. I have eaten them when cooked correctly and they are very good. And no, I didn't eat them for their hallucinogenic effects. The way I cook them removes those chemicals.

I am not mentioning this to encourage people to eat them; just providing factual information.
