Who has had it done and did it help? I am scheduled for consultation on Thursday. My eye sight has really gone down hill the past two months. I can't see well enough to read my trapping magazines or a newspaper. I have to blow things up to 150% tp read posts on the internet. I sure hope cataract surgery is the answer, I got new glasses a couple weeks ago and they did not help one little bit.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Back when cataract surgery was still pretty new, my great grandmother got her eyes done. For as long as I could remember she wore THICK eyeglasses. Then she got one eye done, and as soon as she could went back and got the other done. She lived another 20 years after that and never wore glasses again.

Yes, had both eyes done, and it helped immensely. I had turned 60, and had worn contact lenses for years. It got to a point where my vision was off, and no amount of tweaking with lens changes would help. Eye doctor said I had mild cataracts, and did surgeries one eye at a time, over 3 months. They actually remove the natural lens in your eye, and implant a lens with vision corrections built in. I no longer needed contacts, ( or glasses ), other than to read. Three appointments per eye, surgery lasted less than 10 minutes. You’re awake the whole time. My insurance paid for all this, but honestly, I would have paid for it myself after seeing how much it helped.

I had injury induced cataracts. Many years of welding and chemical splash, along with debris removal. Yes I wore safety glasses, an yes you still get stuff in eyes. Cataract surgery saved my eyes. 20 years now, polarized implants based on lifestyle questions I was asked. Before surgery it was like looking through a foggy windshield.

Thanks for the replies, this is encouraging, I wonder why it didn't help Cedar Hacker. Feedinggrounds description of looking through a foggy windshield is a good description of my vision now.

I like what I am reading. I went to the eye doc a couple weeks ago to get an exam because my eyes are getting worse......was told I had cataracts forming and will likely need surgery within 5 years, maybe less. These check-engine lights just keep on coming. Golden Years my a**!

I had both eyes done five years ago, and see great now. I was surprised how bright and white everything looked without the yellowish cataracts.
The worst part is when they inject the anesthesia into your eyes.

Jim You may have better vision, but at this stage in your life, you'll never see any better. It's the difference between listening to Jimi, and hearing Jimi.

Thanks for the replies, this is encouraging, I wonder why it didn't help Cedar Hacker. Feedinggrounds description of looking through a foggy windshield is a good description of my vision now. NL, things were brighter after surgery but it did not improve my vision. The lenses used were Alcon Labs. AcrySof 1Q, UV with blue light filter and prescribed power. I also had and still have non progressive maccular degeneration which is more than likely hereditary. It has remained the same for the last 15 years. Often times at night when I look at a star or light in the sky, I see two when there is only one. Sometimes they are vertical and sometimes horizontal. Using a spotlight for animals eyes is sometimes the same thing, instead of seeing two I will see four. They are always vertical. I have just learned to live with it over the years. My oldest son was born blind.
Sit on your horse on top of a ridge, look out across the country and tell me there is no God.
