A fishing pole and you should be able to find some brim in just about any creek along the way

Our ditches up here are pretty clean as far as aluminum cans go. Might consider pulling a small wagon to help out with some of those honey holes.

I sold 10 garbage bags full of mostly smashed cans yesterday got 44 dollars. You better plan on eating beans.

He said walk across the US the answer is a resounding no. There are multiple hundred mile stretches in the US that have very few cans per mile and zero redemption centers. Now if he was talking about the BIG MUDDY East to the coast maybe. Its been over twenty years since I was in that part of the country probably still just as much trash as ever if not more.

Michigan is a good bet. We have a $ .10 deposit here on all carbonated beverages. You could make a full time living walking Michigan alone.. People throw them out all over the roads. There is a fellow that lives by me, just telling me the other day that he has already returned 20,000 bottles and cans this summer. He's a little touched so he doesn't travel far. With a large range he would make much more.
There was an old Seinfeld episode where Newman was filling his mail car with cans from NY to bring them to Mi to return them. Pretty funny.
