Got some good production out of my zucchini plants....but noticed a bunch of dead leaves and stems. So up rooted one plant ...and found these bore beatle larvae inside the root system. How do you folks combat these nope ? So maybe I’ll be ready for them next season. And thanks

They only seem to be interested in where the vine enters the ground. I've never seen them enter the vine anywhere else. I have a book that recommends wrapping that part of the vine with aluminum foil. I've never tried it.

Once you notice them, it's too late.

Zukes are too prolific for me, only use half to a quarter of production. Bugs can have some. But as mentioned Sevin dusted around stems. I have one of those pump dusters with a tube and deflector to get the leaf bottoms. That is ideal for this.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I sprinkle Sevin on the ground around the base. My understanding is thats where they enter. They can wipe out every plant in short order.

Planted zucchini for 1st time in 45 years. Planted a couple of hills and plants started to die. Figured out it was borers. I had gave up on them but figured what the heck and dusted with Seven. Watered some and they came out of it. It is beyond me as main stem is about gone. I do not think you can kill them.

Anything to combat these buggers without that Seven Dust…?

They tend to attack most viney stuff.

If you don't want to use chemicals, after you see the infestation at the base of the plant, bury that part with fresh dirt. This will encourage the plant to grow more sucker roots from above the wounded area. Long viney things such as pumpkins and some squash also tend to grow sucker roots along their main tendrils. If you shoot some water on those, as well at the base, when watering, that will also help the plant stay hydrated.

"And God said, Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion and all the creatures that move along the ground".

Also look for the eggs. They lay them in little clusters on the underside of the leaves. Look like a bunch of little red dots. When I find them I remove the whole leaf and burn it. I use Seven for the adults.
