Beef around here average 2.50 - 3.00, pork 3.00 - 4.00 a pound hanging. Cut, wrap and curing extra. We cut our own so I try to source live animals that I can finish to our taste. Feeder pigs average 150 - 200 a head. Beef no average since the local sale barn closed shop. Some people are low end of reasonable but most think they have gold standing on the hoof up to 5.60 live weight.

if you can find a Red Waddle pig , it will likely be the best pork you have ever tasted.
I traded a bunch of wood cutting for half of one many years ago.

Bought whole beef finished with grain 3x and pork once. Won't ever do it again. Worst meat I ever had. Wound up giving it away to poor people who appreciated it Seriously?

I raise or hunt nearly 100% of the meat we consume. The only meat we buy is pork, and I typically only do that when I'm wanting to make sausage or bacon. I trade chicken, eggs, rabbits, vegetables, & fruit to my neighbor for beef. I raise on average 600 rabbits & 300 chickens annually. Whatever I don't sell for pets, breeding, & show stock I butcher and sell. I sell processed rabbits for $5-6/lb, and processed chickens for $3/lb. I'm working on building a pen for a couple of hogs right now.
Yesterday at Kroger, I ran by the meat counter to check prices. They didn't have much in stock, but hamburger was $4.50/lb, pork shoulders $2.69/lb (on sale), chicken leg quarters .99/lb, center cut pork chops $3.99/lb. It's cheaper to raise my own meat!

Local meat for the win.
$2.65 lb hang is what I paid last time. Not sure if price will be raised. I'll be ready for my next half around Christmas.
Put down a deposit for a lamb recently. Should get that in Sept. Just trying something different. $3.75 lb Thats a 1.72 on the hoof for the beef, a little steep but your supporting local.

[ Thats a 1.72 on the hoof for the beef, a little steep but your supporting local. Yes a little steep, I know I could get cheaper elsewhere. But its excellent beef and I can watch them graze just down the road from my home. The mega corps don't get my $$$ and know if SHTF I could count on them for my main source of food which is very important to me.
