I have a 2003 F250 with the 5.4 gas engine with less than 90,000 miles on it . My dad has retired from the farm and I don't have a use for it. What would be a fair price in todays market? It's in good condition. I don't want to try to gouge anybody but want to get what it's worth.

Deduct for reconditioning/deffered maintenance ( be honest ) also look up wholesale/trade in value. Mark even down from there as the stealership will screw you over even more even though they need good used cars bad.

Its not gouging if somebody agrees to a price. Its worth whatever you can get. I would start at 15. Somebody shows up with a handful of hundred dollar bills you can come down if you have to.

If you want to sell do it now and get as much as you can. When all those chips start showing up, and they will, there is going to be a sackful of 2021 pickups to move in order to make room for 2022 models. Prices will plummet on the new and used trucks.

Call your auto insurance provider they will have a list or chart you can use. Probably the same as other options but it is another route to go. Pickup trucks are like houses right now, they are over priced but if you need and want a pickup you will pay the price. A truck that size and having been used on the farm would likely be of interest to farmers. They can use heavy framed trucks that can haul and pull loads.

I'm gambling on this happening. I sold my truck last month to a local dealership. It was a 2019 ram 1/2 ton with 80k miles. They paid me exactly 1k under what I bought it new for in September of 2018. It was out of warranty and needed 2 to 3k worth of repairs, so I feel like it was the right move. I plan to buy a new truck once the market tanks. I have other vehicles to drive so I'm not put out in the meantime.

Slap a 25k sticker on it and park it by the road.

Very , very smart. If anyone else can do this and drive a beater until the chips become available for the new trucks and the market corrects itself with prices coming back to normal , not inflated prices , do it.

I’m hearing the chips will be short for at least another year. I’m in a buyback process with GM now and I have no idea when I’ll get another truck and the dealers haven’t got anything to put me in. Everything that comes in is sold in transit before the dealership gets it or is sold within two days. The prices have gotten high enough that the demand has slowed somewhat from the service manager im dealing with.

It seems prices are way up and quality it way down on all newer vehicles. All brands. I'm not buying for a while.

I think you are right. I have been researching what I want for my next purchase and all of the Big 3 and even Toyota seem to be having engine problems. It seems the most of the problems are boiling down to engine failure as a result of the goofy emissions requirements.

I was looking strongly at the GMC AT4 1/2 ton but reading lots of bad reviews of lifter problems and bent rods in the first 20k miles. That goes for both the 5.3 and 6.2 liter engines. The 3.0 diesel requires you the drop the transmission at 150,000 miles to inspect a belt. Who knows what that will cost in 5 or 6 years.

The hemi seems to have the least amount of problems which is the typical exhaust manifold leak and broken studs. They didn't make it past 60k miles on my 2019 or 2007 before having to be replaced.

It's still a nearly 20 year old truck, but you'd be amazed what people are willing to pay for that $5-6000 truck. You may get twice as much.
