How much chain do you add to your body grips ( water traps) when you move from Cable to chain? I back pack everything in so weight is important.
I'm just planning ahead for when the current cable is garbage.

Just go back to cable if that's what you had on originally and weight is a problem

Good morning, Being as weight is a problem would you consider using rope like clothes line or even parachute cord ?
Can't use anything they can chew threw.

I have used rope in a pinch.Unless you get a bad catch which is rare on beaver if you set correctly, they wont be cognizant long enough to find the rope let alone chew it. I would not use rope as a tie-off except in a pinch.
I use wire on all my bodygrips.Wire is cheap and easy to tell if it needs re-inforced in season. Put new at end of season when checking each trap and re-purpose used wire.

Cable is just easier to work with. All my cable extensions are garage door cables I either pick up at auctions or garage sales, usually cheap.
Several local garage door companies have scrap barrels full of used cable usually free for the asking.
Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.
