Cut one down a few months ago the wood looked great for lumber but one tree was not worth what it would take to get a few boards out of it.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

How did you have a Ash that big still alive? I haven't seen a live Ash bigger than 3 to 4 inches since the Borer killed them off. I have live Ash, but its all regrowth since the die off.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

The base of the Ash Tree was 3 feet wide. All the other Ash trees on the property are younger. This was the oldest of the bunch.

Ash make superior snowshoe frames for hunting shoes. We only have black ash here.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Both. Every crotch into turning stock and firewood out of all the straight pieces. everyone has a different situation/opinion. I don't do turn so I'd make the crotch pcs into lumber/boards. the rest I'd leave in the woods. I don't find ash to be a very appealing wood to make stuff out of, kind of bland grain and coloring. I do have some in my stash but I would add more if it was crotch with lots of figuring, Far as I'm concerned in my woods its best use is to leave it standing dead for woodpeckers and other wildlife. As for firewood, there is better stuff that gives much more heat so why spend the time with something that requires more work to get the same amount of heat?

We have a lot of ash saplings one to 3 inch . Do you expect they will survive the bug and go on to mature, or will the bug end up getting them to. old243 Regrowth/Saplings grow for a few years but the ash borer will get them eventually.
