Made some coyote turds today. Got the idea from steeltraps who buys black modeling clay and rolls his own. Red clay from a nearby drainage ditch (drys hard as a rock) with colorant added. Fortified with some hair (leftover from rawhide making). Roll your own - with an artistic flair LOL. My wife this morning "what are you doing today". Me "making coyote turds". She just rolled her eyes and went back to what she was doing - like any self respecting trappers wife would do. LOL

I use turds at sets for visual attractors, stepping guides and for lure placement. I've collected a lot of real turds through the years for later use. It takes time, is smelly, with mold and health issues and not fun to handle them. These should serve the same purpose and be reusable without the hazmat concerns.

It will be interesting to see if you get the same results even though they don’t smell like turds

Thanks for sharing. Some might get a chuckle at something like this but coyotes eyes play a big part in their actions. Them buggers can see in the pitch black. Neil Olson used to make a ground bait that was applied out of a squeeze bottle. You could make a fine looking turd with that bait for a flat set. LOL If you wanted you could make a cute pile like a dairy queen Sunday.
This post makes me chuckle and think back to something I heard said years and years ago. A trapping friend had one of his work buddies go to a convention with him. The guy told the story after the convention that he had now seen just about everything. This was in the late 70s.
He happened by a demo where Mr. Yates was telling and showing how to gland a fox. He said he had never seen anything like it. A crowd of grown folks standing around watching a man cut the rear end (his exact words were funnier) and you could have heard a pin drop as they were hanging on every word. It is kind of funny in an odd way.
