Outstanding video. A must watch in my opinion. The thing that got me the most was the age of the men who died. It was the war years so it's understandable but some of these guys were in their late sixties and one guy was 71! Way to old to be going down for a shift in a coal mine. All of them, better men than me. He posts the men and their ages at the end of the video.
WW2 ended a year and a half before this. But it still shows how big biz back then and even now just ignores reg's.
Yes, the war had ended but it was still the "war years". Most GI's were still in Europe and the Pacific at the time. It took awhile to get back in addition to a large occupational force that was needed for the first few years on both fronts.
I thought this was for centralia PA which has been on fire for almost 50 years due to a fire in the coal vein. Two centralias two states. Two mines. To tragedies. Crazy

As someone that still works off and on in the strip mine world and also having many loved ones and relatives that retired from the industry, I appreciate this post. Chancey

Yes, so did I. That's why I started watching it in the first place. I thought the same thing you did. I was surprised to find out it was about Illinois.

I watched it a couple days ago , thinking the same thing that it was about Centralia , PA. Interesting story however , was real impressed with average age of the miners lost. For those that have not seen it , stay till the end as they scroll the names of those lost at the end.
