Are bobcats attracted to fermented eggs? Going to sets some cameras out with different baits but don't want to waste time and product on non-producers.

I was shocked when I got no response from skunk essence in areas I know have cats last fall.

Give an illegal alien a fish and he eats for a day. Deport him and you never have to feed him ever again!

Skunk essence has its use but it isnt the Holy Grail by no means. As a stand alone or heavy laced lure or used as a carrier in a bait in very cold temps and deep woods applications it can shine. I use less now then in my earlier years.

Fish, chickens or deer/cow carcasses work well, I use Beaver a lot also .

I found the value and interest predators and fur bearers all had for eggs early on in my trapper career. From that point on I have worked with several forms of egg and egg derivatives for trapping..

I have settled on a cultured egg product that holds the natural egg odor and flavor of fresh eggs. It also provides a stronger odor push.

All benefits that can be added or made into a lure or bait as needed. I have caught hundreds of cats, fox and coyotes over the years on egg based lures and baits as a result. I am sure you can put together some experimental batches of egg developed materials that will be highly attractive to cats and all predators with a little practice.

Nearly every predator knows what eggs are sooner or later if they get thru a full season of life on their own. Either by sight or smell in their travels eggs are a welcome opportunity. In fact many animals, reptiles and larger birds depend upon nesting birds and their eggs to survive thru some lean times until other food sources become more readily available.

Hard boiled eggs salted heavily and put into a fluid brine of SB and soaked in a fridge for a week or so should make a fine bait. Either placed into a cubby or dirt hole. Great visuals and odor combined. Just be prepared for many other takers as eggs are much desired if seen from the air or happened upon by most any other animal on the prowl.

Outside of beaver I've got very little response from else. Accessing enough beaver is the issue as I'm in the great cage trapping state of Washington on the dry side.

Thanks Bob! Good info there. I'm going to set some test baits out in a couple weeks and see what happens. Where I trap cats I don't have to worry about other animals. Only 2 times have I caught a non-target. One raccoon and an opossum.

Might be the cages more then the baits I get a few cats in cages but nothing compared to a good cubby set up where I’m at. I raise chickens and have access to a supply of carp so I tend to use those often along with beaver when I can get it. I like deer draw stations in the area to keep the cats around if I can get them.

I've always had better luck with beaver even back when Washington allowed footholds.(I'm an old timer..sucks! lol)

You are right though. Cage trapping cats is a whole different animal. You really have to convince them they want to come on in. Every lure maker should test their bobcat bait/lure in a cage trap. If you can get them to commit most of the time you have a real winner!

I gave up on cages. Got frustrated as there was snow on the ground. Laid in a couple #3 foot traps and put fur on my stretchers. I believe the guys that use them are catching with them, I just got frustrated and went back to what I had some experience with. Snow might be a great teacher but it can really make you feel like a knothead too.

I never thought eggs were even a decent bobcat bait.

Skunk spray is not really an attractant. It just works good to CARRY other odors in bad cold weather. Rotted down full pods with a little skunk fat make an excellent natural fixative. That stuff does have some attraction.

castor, valerian, rat glands are real good cat attracters.

All this is just my opinion for whatever that is worth to you

Well I'm going to give eggs a try and add some flavoring to them and see what I get.

I'll keep you posted on my results.

Cage trapping sucks but it is better than sitting home.

I have a gallon of fertile duck eggs that’s several years old that looks like Mayo. Been pondering what to do with it.

Bob sells some awesome lures with cultured eggs in them. His expertise is cheap in a bottle.

His non-egg lures are great as well. smile

And he gives a ton of free info.

And he goes the extra mile to get lures out to the trapper ASAP.
