I got called to go catch some beaver that are plugging two culverts on a field crossing. If it runs over the crossing it washes it out. I have trapped this spot every year for four or five years now. This is the creek unset.

Panel/fence set. 330's in each gap on H stand.

Choke spot with fencing 100 yards above other sets.

On the check this morning, H stand and trap gone.

Floater just down stream

One down, I figure one to go. 2 year old female.

This is going to be a prepaid job since he gave me that trailer load of wheat for chicken feed. I wonder if he knew the beaver were there then.

Not much. I am told a beaver that live on vegetation does not ever have much caster. I have no idea if that is true, but it kind of fits what I am seeing. There is not much in the line of brush and trees along the creek. What does everyone else think, do beaver that are living on cattail and water vegetation make caster?

Most of the beaver I catch in the summer don't have much castor, diet in summer is different might have something to do with it?

It seems that they do not cut much wood till later this month. I have photos of them with mouth fulls of ferns and grasses. I would be eating that bugger tonite if it was mine.......jk

When they are blotted enough to float, I don't think about eating them. I have ate beaver and can not say it was bad, but I will not say it tasted like beef. The beaver tasted more like duck to me. I ate lynx the same night the first time I had beaver. The lynx was better than the beaver to me. We had beaver hind quarters, lynx, stuffing, peas and rose hip tea. Galena AK 1990 Tom Paragi was the cook.
